Cool defence! Yes h3 iis the losing move for white. h4 is a draw but not a win for black.
Really enjoyed the game.

Thanks Bruce and glad you enjoyed the game. Making these videos is really helpful to improve my game because I usually don't go back and analize past games, however I think I will start doing that.

Yeh making video's has improved my game greatly. I'm 1329 FIDE. Down from 1372 last season. However since starting making videos I have been getting really good results. I thrashed a 1660 and a 1606 and also got a draw against a 1747 all in OTB games. A large number of draws also against higher rated players. The thing is that it also makes you much harder to beat. I think it's somethig to do with seeing the game as a whole. And analysing in depth helps sharpen up your chess sense. Please keep the vids coming.

Wow sounds like you've been on quite a tear. Will definately post more vids, thanks. By the way I saw an interview with Gary Kasparov and he said he reviewed every game he ever played, both wins and losses, because as he said there is no such thing as a perfect game of chess. He always found where either he or his opponent could have played better and in doing so maybe could find out the better move before his opponent could or at least be prepared to play differently if they did dicover the better move.

It was a good interview.

I think the vids are the best way to learn ever. It's also fun to do and your right. I go over some high level games and there are glaring mistakes, some positional, some just plain blunders. I now review every OTB game I play. I still look at books but only of games. I've stopped studying openings. In games now if I don't know the opening too well, I just try to play logical developing moves and get into a middle game. I like tactics so if you can survive the opening then you shouldn't lose at least. There are then chances to play for a win. I've stopped playing for tactics early in the game unless it's obviously winning. This pays off. I'll be interest ed to see what my rating is next season. Ratings change in June. I'm hopeful I'll break the 1400 FIDE for the first time. This is a Scottish rating and really is stronger than it suggests. If I go up by over a 100 I'll be delighted. I put it down to the vids.

By the way did you see my vid of the Mcnab v Grant game? Colin is a GM in my club but his game was full of mistakes and second, or even third best moves. And Colin has drawn with Kasparov and Korchnoi!

I agree about the books, I used to read alot of them but the problem is I don't rmember most of what I read so it does me no good. The video's I seem to remember better anyway for some reason. Youa re also right its better to forgo the tactics early on and develop first then go into tactics unless as you say, its just winning to do otherwise. I think this is where too may beginners, and even some ambitious intermidiates, get into trouble. Often the attack they thought they had fizzles because they just don't have the material to pull it off an dhten find themselves in a bad positional game.

Keep the great vids comming

Cheers!

At around 18:35 you say "my king can't really leave here or my knight, or I'm going to lose this pawn." But he has no way to take the pawn while your king is there and he has no way to force your king to move. Why not Ng4+ winning the h pawn?

Yeah what I meant to say was one or the other would have to stay to guard my pawn. I missed the check and pawn pickup.
