In your dxc3 line, I think that Bf3 can be quickly rejected due to cxb2+ Kd2 Qa5+ picking up the Na3 with an ongoing attack (the bishop on f3 blocks the queen's defence of the knight). It might be for that reason that your opponent chose Bb5 as it doesn't have this drawback. Don't think Rxd4 was correct either like you said (Qd5 was better) but I must congratulate you on your bravery in playing such a move!
