Thanks for checking in.

I really try hard not to hang pieces. I seem to do "ok" with that at the moment, but what is really killing me is that I miss so many wins! I lose on time (or make mistakes under time pressure), or I miss easy tactics. Sometimes I prematurely resign (I just get annoyed and don't give a crap)! So, I agree that tactical study is probably what I need to do. I should probably get back to some longer time controls and see what happens (when I find the time, of course).

I just started fooling around with Chess Tempo and have been on a steady climb to a current standard rating of 1671 (under a different username). I don't know how far I will go before I hit a plateau. I can usually spot tactics if given enough time, but with my "old fart brain crud", I don't see them too well in real blitz games. My blitz rating on CT is 1555 but I havn't been playing either one much. Maybe I will put in more time and see how far I can go. I have a hard time just sitting there and doing them without falling asleep..LOL!

It's funny that when I first started playing chess, all I did was study the basics of how to play. First on Chessmaster, then some books, then some videos, etc,. I was afraid to lose, so I didn't want to play much (I didn't study enough either... can't you tell?). Now that I know the basics of play, I don't want to study, I just want to play blitz (5 min and 15 min). I have really learned alot from posting my own games for analysis too. I know it takes discipline to get to the next level and hopefully when I get things straighted out in my life, I will be able to apply some discipline to my chess study and game playing.

Play Well!

KB :D

I think you're making a big mistake by playing less blitz games and more long games. It's obvious that tactics and moving/seeing fast are your weak points. You can improve on that by playing blitz. I also recommend you should analyze your games more and better. Next time you make a video, analyze the the game afterwards and record it so we can help you with that.

You've definitely been improving. You've been playing on 1400-1500-1600 rating levels on the internet. Remember where you were a few months ago? 1300, that's right. All this nonsense you keep whining about, it's all in your head.

Btw, if you want to have som fun try semi-weird stuff. Like 1.b3 or 1....b6.
It's fun, refreshing and against weaker players an easy win too (good for the mental health^^) because they cant blitz out their theory. Being "stuck" in theoretical lines can become annying sometimes (always the same psoition, all players seem to be equally good, etc.). Just test out your skills in a "free" game of chess..so, real chess where no one knows any theory.

I enjoy your videos, btw. It's nice to listen to you. So if you feel in the mood to do one, just do it^^ (and add a guitar intro :) )

And..also...prepare adequately:

And for amusement purposes (iirc you were looking for sth "light"):
1.) http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid= ... &q=farador
and
2.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMl4kYmk ... re=related

just browsed quickly though ^^

*g* Seinfeld . Nice one !

I used to watch Seinfeld sometimes but here in Germany it is more or less unknown. I guess only one season or so was shown.
My friend's wife (she moved here about 3 years ago - they married) loves Seinfeld too. She was born in New Orleans and lived quite a while in Chicago...guess she's 40..unsure..well, you don't ask women for their age anyway,..but..erm...what did I want to say...sec..ah well, yes...she loves Seinfeld too and said it was a quite succesful series in the US.

Hiddie and All,

First, I just want to apologize for those 2 anger induced videos. I asked Josh to delete them and I am glad they are gone. I also want to apologize to all the people on this site with special apologies to "katar" for my foul remarks and unwarranted aggression. I was "out of line" and I am sorry. I hope you all will forgive me for my lack of control.

As far as deleting my comments on this forum, well, I am not sure how to explain that. I think at the time it seemed like some sort of "therapy" to unload my anger and frustration. My intentions were to dismantle all that was "KingsBlade" and start over, "tabula rasa". In my state of mind, I lacked forsight, and now, of course, I regret doing that.

Not to make any excuses, but I have been in a bit of a personal nightmare for about 6 years now and ,every now and then, I lose my perspective which doesn't help me with my attitude towards life, much less chess. I guess my stress levels exceeded my tolorance levels and I "tilted". Maybe since my glass has seemed half empty for so long now, I started searching for some sort of ugliness in chess to take out my frustration on, as though I had a chip on my shoulder. Well, I fired both barrels and now I am out of ammo. Sometimes I just need an "attitude adjustment".

Hopefully, after unloading my anger and frustration, I can screw my head back on straight enough to play some chess again and hopefully the good people of this site will look past my shortcommings and allow me to keep posting my error-ridden, boneheaded, silly annotated games.

With Thanks and Sorrow,

KB

Hey Kingsblade

Welcome back !
Of course I have no idea about your situation in general but I am sure that everybody knows such times in which one just wants to §%&*%%! everything -- (self-censoring is a good way of avoiding to take out a dictionary and look for an appropiate word =P ..anyway...).
So, I am quite positive that most people can understand.
Actually, all I want to say is "Glad you are back , Kings "GuitarMaster" Blade ^^ "

Welcome back-- speaking personally, there is no need to apologize, it is all water under the bridge and long forgotten!

There is nothing "stupid" or "boneheaded" about your videos. In fact you make some of the very best (and most popular) videos on this forum which you should be rightfully proud of. But as Hiddie wrote on Sept 20 above, if you post a game, you will get a whole lot more benefit from the process (and create more value for the viewer) if you try to analyze the games to identify the mistakes and alternative variations. It's not a ratings thing-- even Curtains and Zibbit run their games thru a computer analysis and point out missed tactics and alternative variations. Well, except Curtains' 1-minute videos, but then again he is 2475 Fide. :D

"Class warfare" is ugly in chess, and everyone can get punked by some snotty kid who happens to be a bit higher rated. No matter your rating, there is always a bigger fish. GM Jonathan Rowson said IM Josh Waitzkin wasn't really qualified to write The Art of Learning because Waitzkin never got his GM title!!!!

There is a fine line between hostile "class warfare" and constructive criticism from someone who has mostly good intentions. Sometimes that line can get blurred either by the commenter or the one interpreting the comment, and it's something to keep in mind for both sides.

Anywayz, enough of that. Hope we can all remember (including me) chess is just a fun board game and a social outlet. :joker: :joker: :farao: :farao: :farao:

I am still looking forward to the Age of Chess Enlightenment, hoping it will strike like a bolt of lightning, but it appears that it will arrive like the onset of a new Ice Age.

13 Nov 08 ***********"Helpful Suggestions from Armis"*********************

:D Thanks for Visiting :D

I am playing a lot of chess on Chess.com with cvtv members (Thanks All for the games). My play is "all over the place". It's like playing golf for me, you know, one hole you get a par and the next you get a quadruple bogey (this is probably why I don't golf anymore). Oh well, I guess once I get past the basics I will begin to play more consistently, I hope.

Armis and I are playing again on Chess.com and he has given me a lot of advice (along with many other players with good advice too), but I wanted to mention a couple of helpful suggestions. One is to make notes while I am playing a game in the notes tab. This will help me with post mortem analysis and I also think that just making notes in general will help me to remember these issues in my future games. Of course this is nothing new, but it is new to me and I think I am ready to start documenting my boo-boos etc. Robofriven (hey Rob!) also said he wrote notes on his games during post mortem (I believe) and used them when he went back to review his games. I think this will be most helpful, so I will begin doing this immediately.

Armis also suggested that I should look for recurring errors and keep track of them so that I know what I should work on. I have heard this before, but I just needed a little encouragement and I thank Armis for giving me a little push. I think I should categorize them as Drinkbeer suggested to me (btw, sorry about my rant). I think I will do a spread sheet and just see what I can come up with. If anyone has any ideas on this, please feel free to mention them. I would be very interested in your methods and I would be very happy to recieve the advice. I can't wait to see what I dig up!

Thanks everyone for your support!
