I will not be posting a puzzle on a combination, but one on a basic endgame strategy in bishop endings.

What is white's best move?

How does white win?

I've played the position over several times against crafty and thus far no win has been found.

if there is no win to be had, then the exercise if flawed, given that numerous moves will draw....

Well that is true. I'm pretty sure the position is a draw. I was taking it more from the perspective that it highlights a very useful positional idea.

I honestly think such positions (where the "best move" doesn't achieve anything) are mostly unhelpful....

it would have been FAR better had jim found a position where the principle applies AND THAT move wins/draws.

whats worse, is that the analysis is wrong anyway...

why should Bxd3 get a question mark? it draws
although the pawn is of no threat why shouldn't white take it anyway? it draws
why does h3 get an exclamation mark when it is no better than the obvoius alternatives?

I'm sorry, maybe it is because I'm stupid, but, for me to understand a principles I need examples WHERE THE PRINCIPLE CAN BE SEEN WORKING
