I have played El Columpio many times. There is nothing better against the Nf3 variation. Or you can transpose to the Alhekine's defence with Nd5 instead of Ng4.

Accually I haven't watched this video yet, but I am so elated. Never do I see my preferred openings played anywhere (apart from the Grand Prix Attack).
There is a book that descibe El Columpio By Christoph Wisnewski "play 1...Nc6!", 2007, everyman chess (maybe you will mention it in the video).

I have had problems with the variation 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 Nf6 3. e5 Ng4!? 4.d4 d6 5. h6 Nh6 6. Bh6 gh6 7.Bb5 a6 8.Bc6 bc6.
I always seem to end up with no more moves to make and all pieces in my lap.

NOW, I shall put some coffee on and enjoy this video.
I shall try to comment on the game after watching it.

Keep it up and do mention if you want to have a refund you too, for something.

Now I have watched the video.
I must say that the games is symbolic for this variation. At least game number two. You really need nerves of steel as black.
But if you can survive you'll often have the Bishop pair and two semi-open files.
In game number 1 variation they usually play a setup with Qe2, Nc3, g3, b3 and then later they play Nh4 etc.

1.a3! followed with Nc3, thanks for the tip!
Before this post and after I watched this video I played it twice, 2-0!
Very creative thinking from your part. Now one can get to play the Nimzo defence as black and white!

Please, Zibbit, post the reference for the book you seem to look at in the video. I must have missed the name of it when watching.

Yeah this is a fun line to play isn't it? Certainly very creative and excellent for blitz, some very chaotic positions and unusual solutions often needed. I had great fun playing these games and hope this was entertaining for the viewers, at least a change from my usual methodical style eh?!

1.a3!? is a funny way to try and just play your black openings and it can really confuse your opponent. It certainly did that time.

The book I was referring to is the same as you have, "Play 1...Nc6" by Christoph Wisnewski

wow, you sure do love that bishop pair!

i have spent a lot of time with the 1.d4 section of the Wisnewski book, but i discounted EL Columpio because it simply looks like incorrect chess! After seeing the mighty Zibbit wipe out some IM's with it, i shall give EL Columpio another look.

Very entertaining and well done.

It's a bit of a concession but after 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 of course black can return to "normal" chess after 2...e5. I don't know at least this is an entertaining line but I'll need further tests in blitz before feeling good enough to play it OTB. But I'll say one thing, those doubled pawns on the h-file are not as bad as they look. For one thing they give good dynamic possibilities on the g-file and since the black squared bishop was given up, sometimes black is just safe fianchettoing and has the bishop pair.

I agree with you about the 1.d4 section and Chigorin vs Nimzovitsch in general. The Chigorin is a much more viable opening but would be nice to be able to play both.

Re-watching these Nimzowitsch videos. Man, these are some of the greatest vids ever created on this site!

Yeah I agree, these were some of my favorites. Looking back on these old videos I am picking up on a lot of positional ideas that I wasn't able to understand when the videos first came out. It leaves me with an even greater appreciation of Zibbit's talent. I'm glad you bumped this one, Katar.
