Thanks! I thought it was a great game too. Gave me new appreciation for Carlsen and I think I learned a lot.

Good game, probably my favourite as well so far. Really like the technique by white, improving his position. I think Greg did a good job and I agree I think I learned some stuff. Well basically everybody should...take your time in good positions, improve it as you can and include every piece (sort of like Kasparov included everybody in the attack). I also liked how he didn't weaken his position at one point and instead protected the pawn (don't want to give spoilers)

Just a question on how you go about calculating candidates. I've been told that no matter what, if you have the time, it's good practice to calculate all forcing moves first (checks, captures, threats), so that you never miss a random tactical shot. In the very first position, did you even consider the queen sac for knight and rook (not that it's that good or anything), or did you just not consider it and make the normal developing move. Obviously, the video would be pretty boring if you verbalized every check and capture, so maybe you just do that mentally and only mention something if it's worth considering?

Re: curtains - Solitaire 9: Carlsen vs Galego <7> [54:26]
Nice game, very interesting how Black looked only 'somewhat' worse towards the end and in a few more moves he had to resign. Carlsen is definitely one of those people who see the pieces as bundles of energy and not a piece of wood that has a point value assigned to them. It has been very interesting to watch, and continue to witness, his chess career.
I thought you did a pretty good job on this one.

I don't remember honestly but if something looks completely pointless usually I just won't mention. I definitely don't mention something if it looks strange to begin with and I can eliminate it as a realistic possibility almost immediately.

Re: curtains - Solitaire 9: Carlsen vs Galego <7> [54:26]
I think I can answer that if you don't mind. In this case it takes about a nano-second for players like Greg to eliminate Qxb4/Rxa8 as candidate. It's not enough generally R+N for Q and there is no positional bind or anything to compensate for this material deficit.

Ah okay, thanks. I also relatively quickly eliminated it as a candidate, I was just wondering if it was worth mentioning, or if he had even considered it.
