Re: Dennis M.: Viewer Questions, Episode 3 [58:57]
Thanks for sharing, Dennis. I've got a couple questions:
In the endgame starting with 1. Kxe1, immediately after Ka7-b6 Ka4-b4, my knee-jerk reaction is to play c4-c3 to gain the opposition with Black's king on c5. I analyzed this endgame (with Crafty blunder-checking for me) and I think the Kc6-d6 idea only draws...

if White doesn't have the tempo move h3-h4 to gain the opposition a second time, i.e.: 1... Kc6?

2. Kxc4 Kd6 3. Kb4 Kc6 4. Ka5 Kb7 5. b3! Ka7 6. b4 Kb7 7. b5 axb5 8. Kxb5 Kc7 9. Kc5 Kd7 10. Kd5 Ke7 11. Kc6 Ke6 12. h4! wins.
In any event, it's a good endgame exercise to sharpen one's endgame skills.
Is there some endgame rule of thumb (in a similar position) that might imply that c4-c3 is not a candidate move (e.g. rules for inside/outside passed pawns, rules for pawn races, etc.)?
In future lectures, could you increase the volume by about 5-10 dB? My poor speakers are humming along during the lecture!
I look forward to seeing your game analysis videos!
