This is my first video and I appreciate any feedback, positive or negative.

This line is not often seen but is a great gambit line (and played by GMs too, so it's probably sound) for the 2...d6 sicilian. This is a great line, particularly for blitz due to the number of players who fall into the traps described. I realized that I've made a few minor errors but nothing, I hope that won't be understood readily by the viewer. Also, I realize that this site is not chessvideos.com- sorry!

Nice opening video, easy to watch, nicely and clearly presented.
I haven't seen that line before but it looks like fun.
The green squares are not really eye-candy though

Thanks dudes, for the constructive feedback. For some reason the board looked much less migraine-y neon green before I posted it. I have no idea where that grey ring thingy comes from- I don't see it until I record the video. I'll probably record the next videos on Chessbase so you'll be able to watch Excedrin-free.

A great first video. I have played this Basman system in tournament games with good results. It is also covered in the book, Soltis - New Sicilian Gambits.

BTW, I think Nb8 is actually considered "correct" and Ne5 is inaccurate.

EDIT: Sorry i had it wrong: Nd8 is the move i meant.

Well thanks for the link- I'm sorry for the incorrect recommendation. That'll teach me to rely on 30 year old theory!

I stand by my experience though in terms of never losing against ...Nb8 but I'll take a look at the new stuff so I'm ready next time.

Losing faith in the wing gambit but your opening repertoire is a well of knowledge. Be2...will try that one ;D

Really- what lines are causing you trouble? I've been getting good openings in the Portsmouth Gambit- not winning all the games but the most of my losses are not due to the opening.

Actually, things aren't going that bad...ok, I invariably play 3.b4 after any black move, so maybe sometimes some issues stem from neglecting opening subtleties (^^) but I at least always get a nice grip on the centre...it's just that I sometimes doubt I would win/draw a certain position if it wasn't a blitz game.
Probably just a severe case of pre-tournament anxiety. Planning on participating in one in a few weeks and am a bit out of OTB / standard practice and lacking confidence.
It's just that I feel a bit unispired against the Sicilian. If all things fail I of course can fall back to the closed Sic, it's just that it bores me atm and I don't want to play Open / c3 -Sicilians either.

I see. I only play it after 1.e4 c5 2. Nf3 and only after 2...Nc6 will I play 3.b4. I don't trust the other wing gambits in the Sicilian- the Morra is a decent choice if you want to spice up your Sicilian life. If you do go that way, be sure to pick up a recent book: this one is good as the theory has evolved quite a bit in the last few years.

I picked it up a few weeks ago and I concur with kamus. Although it never hurts to do some brewing on your own, since there are still lines to be discovered.

What about 2...e6 or 2...g6 ? Do you have any "weirdo lines" *grin* for those, too ?
