Just to say that when your opponent played g6 attacking your Q and you played Qh6 you could have just played QxN winning a piece! Also after black was forced to give up his Q for rook you were crushing him. You moved your Q to e7. Actually Qh6 followed by Ng5 would have been close to mating. Well played nonethe less.

Hi
Thanks brucewallace2. You are absolutely right I could have taken the black knight (Nh4) with Q but that would have forced the queens exchange and I wanted to keep my Queen a bit longer!
Anyway the black knight was doomed! I then preferred taking it off with my rook as the black queen had to take back to prevent Qxh7# and I ended up winning black's Queen for a rook- a good exchange for me! I still then had my Queen to play on with. I also saw the threat of moving my Knight to g5 (Ng5) & then working with the Queen giving a mate threat again to Qxh7. That seemed good to me but for some reason the move Qe7 appealed more to me-it attacked 3 pieces at once! Also my opponent then overlooked the attack on his Rb4 & blundered by moving his bishop leaving me free to take his rook. Sadly I cannot say I caused him to blunder but I suppose OTB with the Queen in a good position on the 7th rank and attacking 3 pieces at once it was more likely for him to make a blunder?!
Thanks for your comment & best wishes

Hi, I am a low-rated amateur player and I liked this video, it was very thorough and easy to follow. Obviously I didn't expect to see top level play, but I think your opponent was much weaker player than you. First of all, 3. ...Bd6 is not exactly a mistake but after you played bishop to Bb5 and he continued 4. ...Nf6? he already blundered a piece. That's why I'm surprised you didn't take it after 6. ...Bb4+, because 7. c3 threatens two pieces at the same time. You had a winning position nevertheless, because he didn't do anything to prevent attack from h-file. It was a deserved win.

I'm sure you can learn more from other games, where you see stronger counterplay. I like the way you analyse games and are fond of chess. Hopefully you keep learning the game to improve your play. Good luck in your future games!

Hi jon01
Thanks for your feedback & encouragement.
This is my first attempt at a video presentation after seeing several on the internet on several sites including here. I found it harder to do than I imagined! I had several attempts as I was interrupted at times and in the end left out some information about the Scotch opening. When I made this, I was very close to the deadline for the competition & though it was not quite how I wanted it to be, I posted it on site to enter the competition and not miss the deadline.

I edit http://www.buryknightschess.org.ukand would like to put up some coaching videos to help the juniors there. This video contest experience should help although I probably need more help from the club coaches to get the right content and presentation.

Goodluck with your chess- I hope you like the Scotch opening like I do-though it is always interesting when your opponent plays a non book move early in the opening as seen in my video. Best wishes
