Here's my analysis:

5...d6

[5...d5 6.e5 Qd8 7.Nf3 c5 8.dxc5 we're following Dishman-Ward, 2001 8...Bxc5 9.Bd3 Nc6 (9...Qb6 10.Qe2 Nc6 11.0-0 Bd7 12.b4 Be7 13.Nbd2 Rc8 14.a3 g5 15.Nb3 a5 16.Rac1 a4 17.Na1 g4 18.Nd2) 10.0-0 Qc7 11.Qe2 a6 12.Nbd2 g5 13.Rfe1 g4 14.Nd4 Rg8 (14...Nxd4 15.cxd4 Bxd4 16.Nb3 Bb6 17.Qxg4) 15.Nxc6 bxc6 16.c4]

[6...Qg5 7.Nf3 (7.g3) 7...Qxg2 8.Rg1 Qh3 9.Nbd2 A) 9...Qh5 10.Nf1 Nd7 (10...Qa5 11.Ne3) 11.e5 dxe5 12.Ng3 Qh3 13.Qe2; B) 9...Nc6 10.Rg3 Qh5 11.Qb3 e5 12.0-0-0 following Doric-Stevic, ended in a draw. White has a nice bind. Neither bishop can move. 12...g5 13.Bb5 Bd7 14.dxe5 0-0-0; 6...e5 7.Ne2 g6 8.0-0 Bg7 9.f4; 6...c5 7.Ne2 Be7 8.0-0 Nc6 9.d5 (9.dxc5 dxc5 10.f4 e5) 9...exd5 (9...Ne5 10.Bb5+ Bd7 11.Qb3) 10.exd5 Ne5 11.Bb5+ Bd7 12.Qb3 Rd8 (12...Bxb5 13.Qxb5+) 13.f4]

7.Ne2 Bg7 8.0-0 0-0 9.f4 Nd7 10.Nd2 Qe7 11.e5

This analysis is by no means authoritative, it's meant to be a starting point. Hope you enjoy :)

I watched this video 2 times, looks like white has more fun in these lines (with big pawn center). Great video, looks like you know and understand the lines very well. I wouldn't want to face your Trompowsky unless I found something that can really counter white's center.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! And poGGa, I feel the same way about playing the pseudo-Trompowsky against you :)

:D Nice Josh. I'm looking at this from the black side as I play 1.....Nf6. I really liked this lecture. It would be good to see a series, perhaps with some full games and with a few black wins. It's true that analysing the reson for losses sharpens your game. I saw the nice game played by Trial and Error and this must have stung you into analytical action. d5! eh. Another weapon in your armoury.

Nice vid. The Tromp really is a great opening. At this years Blackpool congress I had to play GM N Davies who has written a couple of books about this opening, even so, I had the problem of what to play against him and decided to give the Tromp a go. I lost, but this was in the time scramble when I blundered away a completly winning position, or he blundered into one and escaped depending on your point of view. It started in the line you mentioned 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 e6 3.e4 h6 4.Bxf6 Qxf6 5.Nf3 the old line, but I still got a good opening against him. I think the real test for white comes in the benoni type systems, which I have not found a convincing enough line for white.

Nice video. I've got the Peter Wells Trompowsky book and had struggled with the 2...e6 line for some time. I got the feeling from the book that Wells didn't really believe in this c3 line so I didn't really feel enthaustic about playing it so instead tried the Qd3 lines. After watching this video though that changed and now I've added it to my repetoire. First try was a nice Blitz game where I won easily after getting the "ideal" attacking position :). The Qg5 gambit lines looked fun as well but I really can't imagine a club player going in for this line but it's good tactical practise. I hope you continue with some of the other Tromposky lines.
