Re: KingsBlade - KIA Beautiful Loss [9:11]
Mark,
I posted about this game and about your Pirc game, but the posts seem to have disappeared during the upgrade somehow. Maybe I'll rewrite them if they don't reappear soon.

Re: KingsBlade - KIA Beautiful Loss [9:11]
Admin helped me recover the post. Here it is:
Mark,
This game is interesting because it's a Pirc with reversed colors.
6.Nbd2?! Just like in the Pirc, this move seems to be not so hot when you haven't played c3 first (especially when the opponent's bishop is on c5). The reason is that your opponent can play 6..e4!, intending e3. Also, since the bishop is on c4, the move b4 by you would come with tempo, which gives you an opportunity to expand on the queenside with tempo. After 6.c3, your threat is b4, and if he responds to b4 with something other than Bd6, b5 will win the e pawn.
9.Re1?! This move seems very strange to me, for two reasons. One is what you mention later in the video, which is that his bishop is staring at f2, and the other is that it doesn't really seem to improve your position. I recommend either Qe2 or c3 (both of which you played eventually anyway).
11.Nxf3? This move is natural in the KIA, but white's position is bad enough here that this doesn't work for tactical reasons. Black should have continued Qxd1 Rxd1 Nxe4, when the old King's Indian pawn exchange idea doesn't work, since the f pawn is hanging. Bxf3 was forced here, which is a bad sign.
I'll stop the analysis here, as I really just wanted to comment on the opening. The KIA is difficult to learn to play, so don't be discouraged. If you stick with it, it'll seem easier eventually. Even if you eventually decide that the opening is not for you, you may learn something about positional play from these games.
