Post Re: Robofriven - vs Armis 25 5 Alekhine\'s Defense [9:02]
Couple things I should mention that I seemed to forget in the video. Firstly, sorry about the audio not sinking up, I've always had problems with that on here, hence the short game.

Firstly I wanted to talk about the position before the move a3. It looked like this:

I think this was a slightly better position for White. Not just because Fritz gave it a +=.20, because I thought this before the silicon beast told me so. And here's why.

Firstly, space. White is kicking Black's butt at space! The center and the Queenside are under White's control with Black not really having any way of gaining any territory because his pawns are all blocked by the knights. The only square that Black really controls is b4 and a5 and the square e5 is rather up for grabs at the moment.

Blacks knight on b6 has moved a LOT to get to where it's at, and it's not really all that great of a square where the White knights on f3 and c3 are rather well placed effecting the center which is controlled by White's good pawns on c4 and d4.

The Bishop on h5 really isn't doing a whole lot anymore since the pin was broken, though I do now see that h3 was a rather useless move it really didn't cost me anything except the pawn on h3 was harder to defend than it would have been on h2 after the bad gxf3 move, but that's gxf3's fault more than h3's.

And near the end, Kh2 wouldn't have helped at all because Nxf4 still can't be stopped.

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed the video, any and all feedback is quite encouraged. Thanks!

Nice video, very easy to follow. You should make more!

Taking with the bishop on f3 as it turns out is pretty good for white. White could even retain the bishop pair not taking on c6
Instead of a3 you could have just played b3 followed by some other developing moves and once everything is ready go on the queenside or in the center as you have space
Keeping flexibility with your pawns is also important as d4 gave up the e5 square, while f4 covered e5 but weakened you king even further and made the bishop on c1 look kind of silly
You have improved a lot ;)

Thanks Armis! I plan on making more in the future I think, but I'll have to sort out that stupid sound syncing issue or it will make videos longer than 7 or 8 minutes impossible to follow. :-) In fact that sound problem is the same thing that stopped me making them in the first place.

Armis is an amazing positional player and can seem to find almost the optimum move in any position if given enough time.

On many levels I still prefer posting really big analysis posts of my games rather than videos because I always forget points in videos, but I guess I've only made 2 of them and it will just take more practice. Anyway, I'll be able to make more of them once I fix the sound issue. I'll probably make another next weekend.

Thanks for your comments Kingsblade!

Armis is patient. I saw that in his game against Jim. Being patient isn't easy, either.

Thanks guys

You should definetaly make more of these Rob! And even if you don't fix the sound issue 10min seems fine as you can still point out the critical moments while leaving the complete analysis in the pgn thingy. So if anyone is willing to dig deeper he can look at the complete annotation

But I want to be thorough! Hence the reason why all of my analyses (What's the plural of analysis?) are several pages long! :-)

Please post more vids Rob. They're easier to follow than text analysis. I thought your position was very good. It's about seeing a little deeper isn't it rather than getting over worried by your opponents apparent threats? gxB was definitely the wrong choice. The Alekhine is one of those really annoying openings where black has no obvious weaknesses in the position but white has lots of trumps too. I don't mind playing against it now. There are a good set of videos looking at sacrificial ideas against it on this site.

Thanks Bruce for the comments! I will probably post more videos in the next few weeks. I have been really busy at work and this weekend I not only have Mother's Day stuff but a wedding last night and I'm going fishing with my brother today. I'm a busy guy!
