I think an important part of our site is the front page blog. Lately though, I've been pretty busy and keeping it up to date is tough. Additionally, I think it would be cool if it had weekly features like a game of the week, a chess website of the week, a book review of the week, player profile of the week, etc., member of the week (should come back). I was wondering if people would be interested in writing for the front page blog. People could contribute one time things, or if they really want to get involved, could write a weekly column (like a video of the week feature or game of the week, etc.). We're looking for creative ideas!

If you're interested, post in this thread and we can try to get some people involved. I think if we got a bunch of members involved, it would make our community even stronger.

I will do what ever you want Josh, also, I might be interested in doing a weekly article in addition to whatever you might need.

I would be willing to contribute both one time articles from time to time and a weekly feature.

(Just to clarify I'm not saying I want to be the one to pick, you can keep doing that if you want, I just want to do the actual interview. )

As far as I'm concerned, there is a standing request for articles from anyone. I can't promise we'll run every article unedited, but all contributions are welcome

Will all legal and legitimate articles be published?

I hope I'm not being churlish, but I when I submit my brilliant 2,000 word article I'd like to know what chance it has of being used.

Hmm, that depends on your definition of "legitimate." We're willing to publish almost anything, but I can't promise that we won't require editing for spelling or readability. Also, if it's too far off-topic, we probably wouldn't publish it (a review of a new xbox 360 game probably won't make it unless it's about chess). I don't think something being off-topic will be much of a problem, but if you have any concerns, just send me a pm.

Just to clarify:

I am seeing the words "article" and "front page" thrown around a lot here, and I want to explain what they each mean.

We have a chess articles section of the site (http://www.chessvideos.tv/chess-articles.php), and we are more than willing to accept articles/interviews and publish them if they are of high quality, of course attributing the article to the writer.

When we talk about the front page, we are thinking short 100-200 word entries highlighting recent site events (like new articles or interesting threads/videos), but not long articles. They are entirely different things, but both are really important for the site.

For example, to write good posts for the front page you don't need to be an expert on a topic, you just have to be current with happenings on the site. Alternatively, to write a good article you don't need to be up to date with the site, you just need to have some expertise in an area and write a great article about it. As I said earlier, help in either area would be incredibly helpful to the site, because we want all our visitors to both get a quick up to date summary of recent events and also have great and educational articles to read. We are really happy we are getting so much support and hope we can continue making the site better

To clarify even further: the front page can also have weekly features like beginner's tips and games/reviews of the week, but the key thing here is short. Maybe 200 or 300 words at the most. Anything longer, as admin noted, would be an article.
