Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
good games whiskey. i played thru all 3 and i have my own thoughts on them but i don't think this is the proper forum for that.
your games show a tenacious fighting spirit. you did not self-destruct after your mistakes, or simply collapse in a worse position. this is very annoying to 1800 players. (i speak from experience!) Usually 1400 player will blunder an exchange or a piece at least once a game, & it's very frustrating when they dont cooperate! I.e., usually a 1400 will beat themselves and no special effort is required to win!

Katar, if you want to add your two cents to the games, (and I'd appreciate any analysis) - I'm putting the three in as Whiskeytown Wednesday's and the first one is in the Beginner's forum right now - (my 1800 win) -

Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
i'm on extended vacation til Labor Day and i played a legit 2160 USCF player 5 blitz games, 5/0. i had a steady advantage in game 1, then collapsed fast. i got blown out in game 2. HERE is game 3!
How about moves 11-16!!! Pretty rad to play such a maneuver in a blitz game against a good opponent! i also won games 4 and 5. maybe my best blitz performance ever-- 3 / 5! we played "live" OTB at a taco place. (not on internet)
peace out.

Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
Very nice! That whole rook excursion was pretty cool. I'm not sure 2. b4 is the greatest slow chess move, but I can see it being a great way to play in blitz if you know it reasonably well. BTW, how were the tacos?

omg I cannot believe this!!!! Look what just happened! This is NOT bullet, this is 5 minute chess. He actually took 4 seconds for Nf6 . I'm sorry to post this (not very respectfull really), but if I don't, I won't be able to sleep. I scholarsmated an FM!!

Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
Yikes! One of those situations where the elephant sitting quietly in the corner got completely overlooked... Of course, playing 2. Qh5 against an FM is probably as least as disrespectful as telling the world about the scholar's mate... You may have seen Petrosian-Bronstein, Amsterdam, 1956: This was an OTB tournament game where the future world champion played 36. Ng5 in the diagramed position. After the game he was quoted as saying, "I simply didn't think about Black's only active piece." Strange things sometimes happen at the chessboard, even to top level GMs... Here's a link to the game and a discussion of the apocryphal story about how much time Bronstein had on his clock when this happened: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1033916Anyway, congratulations on beating a FM no matter how it happened... L8erz... =wild=

Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
Tell GM Nakamura that 2. Qh5 is disrespectfull . The idea is not to deliver scholarsmate, it's to get a nice position after the mating threats are dealt with. Your game stirs something in my mind and I'll read that story tomorrow. Still... you might overlook an attack on a piece, but scholarsmate...?

Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
Not meaning to burst the bubble....but, when people play that sort of shit against me sometimes I'll just let them have the mate, simply because I can move a piece faster than I can click the resign button.

Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
Ooooh, so if you don't get a Ruy-Lopez on the board, you'll just resign? What's more beautifull than a novelty on move 2?! Chess is creativity, not just playing who knows the most theory. If you'd like to improve, start thinking more objectively about your positions. 2. Qh5 and 3. Bc4 got a serious strategical and psychological advantage. Maybe you're right, but it would be pretty retarded. Nor does it matter really, I scholarsmated a titled player. For me that's something incredible, but I guess I'm the only one around...

Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
Yes, 2... Nf6 is very tough to play against:), but don't tell anyone ! Appreciate the link though. Seems better than what I once tried against it (*shudders*).

Re: OFFICIAL Beats and Brags thread
Ooooh, so if you don't get a Ruy-Lopez on the board, you'll just resign? What's more beautifull than a novelty on move 2?!
depends on my mood, sometimes, I will just 'quit'.
whats more beautiful? --- a flower, a little kitten, blue socks, etc.
Chess is creativity, not just playing who knows the most theory.
while it maybe more creativity than theory, the game is more logic than creativity... so, why play something duboius (like Qh5) in a seroius game when there are more logical alternatives? (there are also, I assume, better ways to avoid theory)
If you'd like to improve, start thinking more objectively about your positions. 2. Qh5 and 3. Bc4 got a serious strategical and psychological advantage.
you know what else also gives you a psychological advantage? --- playing good moves.
but seroiusally, even if Topalov or Krammik himself threw that at me I would be happy, because the way I see it, all of blacks moves come naturally to him... g6 or Qe7 possibly with Nf6... and then it is white who has the hard choice of peice placement, not black (i.e where should my queen go?).
as for its "stratgeical merits" what on earth are they? ..perhaps more importantly, how powerful are these strategical merits when compared to the less duboius openings?
I scholarsmated a titled player. For me that's something incredible, but I guess I'm the only one around...
Incredible yes, If we imagine our FM scratching his head and thinking "OMG how the f*** did that happen"....but the story is much less interesting should we imagine that he was thinking: "scholars mate? SCHOLARS MATE!! ... its taken me years to get this title and to be taken seroiusally but people still play this sort of horse-s*** against me?!...do they see my rating? do they know that FM's are a little bit smarter than to fall for such a silly trap? ...to hell with this! I cant be bothered to play, now, where is that blast women to scrub the dishes and make me tea?"
