Charles:
This video is terrific. Thank you for taking the time. I already play this variation. I learnt from this video that it is OK to allow the Bb4+ Ke2 line. Previously i always castled first.
Thanks again and i look forward to part 2.
This is the golden age of CV.TV. 5 videos from Curtains last night, Zibbit's Pattern Recognition #4, now this from the Salesman....

i like this video, i'm a Two Knights player myself.... it was a nice video... i'm interested in watching the second part because to my knowledge playing Bh4 is not a side line... it is a losing move! Because of this variation: 1. e4 c6 2. Nc3 d5 3. Nf3 Bg4 4. h3 Bh5 5. exd5 cxd5 6. Bb5+ Nc6 7. g4 Bg6 8. Ne5 Rc8 9. d4 e6 10. h4

That line is often quoted as clearly better for white but the truth is, it's not that clear after 10...f6 For example 11.Nxg6 hxg6 12.Bd3 f5 is ok for black. Or 11.Nxc6 bxc6 12.Ba6 Rb8 is ok for black. FYI, my computer engine thinks 11.Nxg6 is = and 11.Nxc6 is +=

 Re: TheSalesman - TWO KNIGHTS VAR: (Caro-Kann) Part:I [16:25]
The trick at around 5:00. Isn't the winning line something like Qf3-b3 instead of the Qh5 stuff? I think white wins 2 pawns there, b7 and c6. Maybe the other stuff is just as strong or stronger don't know at least both look promising.
My friend once beat GM Jonathan Speelman with this line in an Olympiad in a very nice game. This 2 knights line contains some venom definately.

 Re: TheSalesman - TWO KNIGHTS VAR: (Caro-Kann) Part:I [16:25]
Hmm, Wow! ... i played this line for years and was under the impression that it was a clear win for white. i checked it out, yes, it is weird. at first the game seem like a clear plus over minus but sometime into the variation this changes into a minus over plus!
1. e4 c6 2. Nc3 d5 3. Nf3 Bg4 4. h3 Bh5 5. exd5 cxd5 6. Bb5+ Nc6 7. g4 Bg6 8. Ne5 Rc8 9. d4 f6 10. Nxg6 hxg6 11. Qd3 { is the best try here } Kf7 12. Nxd5 e6 13. Nf4 Nge7 14. Bc4 Nxd4 15. Be3 Qc7 { till now Fritz considered this to be better for white, after black's last move it is black who gets the plus! } 16. b3 b5 17. Qxd4 bxc4 18. Qxa7 Qc6 19. Rh2 g5 20. Nh5 cxb3 21. axb3 Qc3+ 22. Kf1 Qxc2 23. Kg1 Qxb3 24. Ng3 Kg8 25. Ne4 Ng6

Your absolutely right, Qf3 with b3 is an option but there have been a lot of games where white loses with a Bc5 by black and I preferred giving the safest alternative to the advantage. It is very difficult to dispute whites advantage after Qe2.

Yes, the position you showed was very overwhelmig for white, huge developmen lead and the horrible bishop on h7.

 Re: TheSalesman - TWO KNIGHTS VAR: (Caro-Kann) Part:I [16:25]
Thank you everyone, In regards to the Bh5 line with g4 and h4, It is very tricky for both sides. I think the position has been a little neglected by theory and there seems to be more than one way to play for white. the question is which!?

Very interesting. Definately worth trying out. I guess I'll have to start playing 1. e4 again though...
