 How to proceed in this endgame. I got to this position here in a game today  Black to move How should this endgame be handled? When playing the game I thought it was a pretty straightforward draw, but if I was right I misplayed it because I lost.

Re: How to proceed in this endgame. I'm no endgame expert, but I like pawns on h6 g6 f5 b6 a7, king on d6 and rook on c8. Probably first I would move Ke7, then, depending on response, Kd6, f5, g6, etc then the Q pawns.

Re: How to proceed in this endgame. Yeah, it seems drawn, however rook endgames are sometimes sooo tricky. I would like black's pawns on f6 and b6 to cover the e5 and c5 sqaures just as white did, then a kind on d6. One thing to note though is if white ever goes h4 when black has the h6 g7 f6 structure YOU DON'T WANT TO ALLOW h5 unless that pawn can be won or something. Because that would really cramp your kingside and g7 would be hard to defend besides if you move your g7 pawn then you would be left with split pawns while white would be using an h pawn for this trade

Re: How to proceed in this endgame. yes it does look drawn. Black has a slight advantage, but all you have to do is bring your king to the center and don't blunder and you can draw.

Re: How to proceed in this endgame. Yes you are right this is a pretty straightforward draw. Move the king to the centre and then just play chess, that's the best and only advice I can give there. Don't make weaknesses and don't get too passive is probably only other thing I can think of.

Re: How to proceed in this endgame. Thanks for your input. I'm glad that at least I had the right read on the situation, and even the right "plan" just didn't fulfill it properly, nothing new there though.
