I like these videos. I don't play this as black, but I often face it as white and do not always know how to proceed. Even though it is from the black perspective, I find it very Informative. Thank you.!!!

I've started playing the Berlin defense since purchasing the John Cox book. I really enjoyed this lecture and I would like to see more Berlin lectures.

Thank you for yet another fascinating video.

You might be interested to know, the phrase "the threat is stronger than the execution", often attributed to Nimzowitsch, did not originate with him. There are even some accounts that attribute it to Tarrasch, but my understanding is the original formulation is found in Chess Openings by James Mason, written in 1897.

BS: The Cox book is excellent! It will put you in good stead.

ARISE: Thanks for the tidbit! It's possible that Mason didn't invent it either, but until I read otherwise I'll try to remember to give him the credit rather than Nimzowitsch.

Me too- I've shied away from positional openings but this actually looks like fun. Thanks Dennis!

fantastic dennis! I have played the Berlin for two years and have an 83% win ratio with it. I recently bought the excellent cox book. However, I must absolutely praise both of your videos on the Berlin for their masterful presentation.

Hi Dennis, At 25:35 or so, after Rd2 defending Bb2, you didn't mention the possibility of Nxe5 exploiting the pin on the rook- have I missed something?

kamus,

I haven't checked by the video clock (I'm apparently not a premium member - gotta get that taken care of!), but if it's where I think it is, the answer is that you have missed something. :) 27.Rd2 Nxe5? 28.Nc1 and Black must cough up the exchange.

OK thanks- I'm a little red-faced  at missing that one- thanks for the great videos ( I won my first two attempts at the Berlin thanks to your lucid explanations) and for taking the time to reply to a patzer's question.
