Another great video. Thanks for taking the time to make these (we don't all have chess coaches you know)! I liked that closed sicilian bit, looks like a fun game.

Thanks for the video.

Despite your reservations about broad questions I still found your treatment of them useful.

Thanks for a great Video!

Although you call for not too broad questions on openings I found this very instructive in a general sense and hope you will make more of these.

My problem is finding plans/ideas and finding good spots and coordination for my pieces. I consider this lack of understanding my key problem in my chess improvement (next to limited tactic skills).

Lately I have banned openings completely from my "study" to focus on understanding. I found that with my play-frequency (sometimes I do not play for months) studying openings is not helping me in understanding chess any better. It improves quick results but when I get out of opening I have the same problem further in the game: finding a plan and difficulty in evaluating the different ideas.

Result of random openings is that I am loosing for weeks in a row now. Your video gave me a sense of what to look for! Please keep them coming!

Dennis, can you do in-depth coverage of the 6.Bg5 Najdorf?

Just kidding! Great video, thanks!

sfarmer: I was planning to include that in an upcoming 15-minute video covering the entire Sicilian in depth.

Haha! Look forward to that one, and maybe a 10-minute session covering the Spanish - that way I'll be well armed for my next tournament.

Can a video on the new found opening discovery 1. a4! with the Frenchie501 gambit 1...b5!? be created please?

Okay joking aside, I am really grateful for these videos. JWhis kind of asked the question I was going to ask, but i will still post my original question because I think there may be a few new points to add to it. Of course, I will do it in the correct thread :)

Thanks for your time and effort once again, Dennis

Frenchie501

Arjen: Play over more master games, including master games in your openings. That will give you some idea of what to do with your pieces.

sfarmer29: Don't be ridiculous - it takes at least 12 minutes to adequately cover the Ruy Lopez.

Frenchie501: I don't think you want to the 1.a4 b5? gambit named after you. You might be interested or at least amused to know that IM Eugene Meyer occasionally played 1.a4 2-3 decades ago, which he would follow up with 2.a5, 3.e3 and 4.a6. I don't really recommend it, but I'd play it all the time if I were guaranteed to see 1...b5 in response.

LOL Dennis I hope you see i was joking. I was going to get my friend to play a horrid april fools and do full analysis with 1. a4, but it was too crude an idea. :D a4, b4, g4 and h4 just look plain bad to me, Matt Pulins youtube video on beating 1. b4 is superb.

There was a GM who religiously played 1. h4 I think, can't remember his name though. Sure I seen a book on it at a stall...
