Funny how random a3 seems. But in the end he could've made sense of it with c3 instead of b3, which is a popular line in the Advance French. Chess is a strange game sometimes.
Your Nh4 trick was cool, a very good move.
Instead of b5 you could've tried Re7, to guard all the pawns (Rg6+ kf7), or Rc7, threatening to push the pawn. He has to be careful, for example 1...Rc7 2.Rg6+ Kf7 3.Kxe5 c2 and you get a new Queen. I believe he has to go back with his rook after Kf7 and you can just repeat the position and put your king on f6 again.

BH,
I really liked the move 19..Rae8. Your central pawns were giving you loads of space at that point, and I think that white's only decent plan in that position was to somehow work towards turning your doubled d pawns into targets by isolating them with a capture on f5. As you said during the game, taking on f5 would have been tough because the d3 bishop is the only defender of c2 in that position, but I don't see a better idea for white. Your nineteenth move gave what was (up to that point) a nearly useless piece an important job, and it all but eliminated the little counterplay your opponent had.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Brett, I'm glad to hear that Rae8 was a good choice. I spent a lot of clock on that move thinking about the knight and ultimately moving the rook. Glad to know it resulted in a good decision. After spending that much time, I always feel like I should have found the "obvious" simple solution earlier. If I'm thinking about the center of the board, which I was, doesn't it just make automatic sense that I would want a rook there somewhere?

HH, I agree that getting the rook behind the c-pawn and pushing was my best chance to tie his rook down to defense. Thanks for the sample line you gave.

Here's a pgn for anyone who wants it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
