What are you going to do if both players bid the same time? A Rebid?

then coin flip, which is now fair because if they wanted less time they had the chance to bid lower.

wouldn't rematches do weird stuff like encourage safe draws in slightly+ situations early in the tournament (to decrease chances of having to play strong players twice) or something?

Great video & commentary - many thanks.

I'm just coming back to chess after a long break - this series is an excellent re-intro.

Does this tournament decide the US women's champ?
It's too bad we didn't get to see a game between Zatonskih and Krush.

No it doesn't, the same sponsors are holding the US Women's championship in a few months.

As an experimental economics major I love this tie break system. Plenty of research has been done on these types of systems.

reminds me of a method of splitting a cake between 2 people:

one person cuts the cake, the other chooses which piece. the cutter has every incentive to "maximize the minimum" or to make the smaller piece as nearly equal as possible to the bigger piece. incidentally this method is also described as shorthand for Rawlsian justice. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Theory_of_Justice
