Interesting that you should choose this quote!!

What do you mean by that?

Tony wrote:
I am "Tony" here and I know momus is someone completely different but who knows, he may actually be you!

Indeed

Have you ever read any analysis written by Alekhine, especially from his own games?

To me it seemed pointless that's why I asked. And what does it have to do with Alekhine?

Exactly. That's why you should read your previous posts carefully before you edit them. Here, let me quote some

Praise is usually able to elicit an answer from Dennis I have noted.
Anything else and I think he gets miffed.

I started to play the video again but fell asleep

No problem. I used Google. I recommend it for finding public information quickly.

Someone told me something ugly was going on in this thread, and I have to agree. To someone who is a CV.TV old-timer, it seems pretty obvious that:

1. Dennis is a great teacher who has made some wonderful videos and has helped a lot of us lesser lights in many ways. He's he's one of the reasons this is such a great site.

2. This is a personal attack on him orchestrated by a single person.

3. The best thing to do is to simply ignore any future comments by momus/Tony.

I am disgusted by Tony and Momus's posts to this topic. With more members like them chessvideos.tv would cease to exist as there wouldn't be anyone foolish enough to volunteer their time to create videos. If you two have nothing nice to say go watch another video instead of insulting the volunteer. Better yet, create your own video and pray that ingrates don't make petty complaints.

I have known Dennis for years. Even though he is 3-400 points higher rated than me he has ALWAYS been very generous with his time. Never too busy to look at a game or help me analyze a position. And I am not a personal student. He is simply a nice guy. The world needs more people like him instead of negative destructive people.

Momus, did you delete your old posts because you are embarassed, realize that you were wrong, or are covering up now that 'public opinion' has turned against you? I'll hope it was choice B but , if so, an apology is in order.

Work it out armis, and if you are unable then I simply meant what you read.

Perhaps the person who has offered to post the score would care to answer this one.

If you don't know what Alekhine has to do with analysis then you will get analysis which you deserve.

You think these posts are attacks?
Thats very odd.

Dennis does answer people who praise him, and my opinion makes me think he does not answer those who disagree with him.
This is not an attack its merely an opinion.

Was it really me who said "I fell asleep"? Well if so, I'm not the first to be tired and fall asleep while watching tv or video or while reading. However, someone on chess videos has said that Dennis has a voice that puts him to sleep...or words to that effect...and it wasn't me!

Very nice.

Looks like someone has been speaking to a lot of people.

You are entitled to your opinions and I to mine, opinions invariably differ, so it would be best if you do ignore me..and momus if you so choose; and I shall ignore you in the future...promise.

A new member today and so much to say...poetic, like justice...

The courage of being out of range eh Brian?

I'm sure Dennis is a nice guy, I agree with you on this point. I'm sure I would like him if I met him, I have and still do help people with their analysis don't we all when we can? I also agree we need more nice people not negative destructive people like all those nasty people who blow others up for reasons best known to themselves eh?

I'm sorry you are upset I'm sorry if what I have written has upset you Dennis or anyone or if it appeared unkind, this was not my intention I only wanted the opponents name and game score and to let momus know that I thought he had a point.

ugh, I was hoping this would die out. Very rude and completely distracting. Tony/Momus are (is?) banned.

Is the idea of trading off black's dark-squared bishop particualr to the Berlin or is it a good idea in all openings of this kind where the dark-sqaured bishop's prospects aren't so good?

Oh, and great video by the way. What I like about your videos is that you go through lots of possible continuations, which makes it more interesting. There's also lots of general advice, ideas and motifs that help lesser rated players a lot.

evan7284:

There are lots of openings where a player attempts to swap off a bad bishop (Black's light-squared bishop in the French is one very well-known example), but Black's dark-squared bishop in the Berlin isn't such a bad piece. The reasons to swap it are somewhat peculiar to the Berlin. Swapping it for a knight (the best trade for Black) is done for the sake of the light-squared bishop (if White's knights can't bother a light-squared bishop on e6, then Black is usually in great shape). Swapping it for the White bishop (generally White's worst piece) is another story. White's bishop isn't an especially wonderful piece either, most of the time, thanks largely to the pawn on e5 blocking its most promising avenues. However, Black's king is often inconveniently stuck on the back rank, keeping the rooks disconnected, so a 1.Bg5 h6 2.Bxe7+ Kxe7 trade is very helpful for Black from that point of view.

Great video Dennis! Your presentation in this and the other video immediately convinced me to add this to my repertoire- thanks for your good work and your courteous nature in the face of adversity.

Always fine videos from Dennis! If you are considering purchasing the video, note that this is a C67 Berlin Defense, beginning 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. O-O Nxe4 5. d4 Nd6 6. Bxc6 dxc6 7. dxe5 Nf5 8. Qxd8+ Kxd8.
