FYI #1) nice article on "Capablanca Defense" endgame here: http://www.chesscafe.com/text/mueller61.pdf#2) I didnt mention the GOring move order.. it goes like this: white has no important deviations. ok peace out.

Hey katar!
Thanks for another great installment in this series. I really like the one-stop-shopping approach against the DG&P crowd, and I really admire the nice, simple way you think about and present the material. Well done! I can't wait for the last three installments...

Re: katar - 1.e4 e5 for Black: Danish, Goring, Ponzi [24:20]
Hi all,
Here's my transcription of video #4. It's interesting to compare the two PGNs, but I need to do my own as a way of forcing myself to organize it in a way that makes the most sense to me. I think the differences mostly have to do with organizing it to present versus organizing it for me to absorb. If anyone else finds my effort to be useful, here it is:
Found some errors in the original. The corrections are below:
[Event "KATAR 1... e5 VIDEO #4: CAPABLANCA POSITION"] [Site "www.chessvideos.tv"] [Date "2009.11.23"] [Round "?"] [White "?"] [Black "?"] [Result "*"]

Re: katar - 1.e4 e5 for Black: Danish, Goring, Ponzi [24:20]
Yeah, i just input the raw moves and speak off the top of my head in the video... All the raw moves are computer-checked, but my extemporaneous comments sometimes have mistakes. I offer the raw PGN so people can modify it to suit their needs. Thanks for your efforts on this, Wildman. A typo BTW: In the Ponziani line, 4.Qh4 should be Qa4. Also, the insane psychotic line in the Ponziani is 4.Bb5 dxe4 5.Nxe5 Qg5! 5...Qg5! is a refutation in every sense of the word, but the positions are irrational and you may see the position once a decade, so i give 5...Bd7 as a sane alternative. Even the upcoming book _Play the Ponziani_ acknowledges that 5...Qg5 refutes the author's old favorite, 4.Bb5. http://www.everymanchess.com/chess/book ... e_PonzianiNot that i'd recommend playing the Ponziani... i think you're better off with King's Gambit, but that's off topic. OK Peace Out.

Re: katar - 1.e4 e5 for Black: Danish, Goring, Ponzi [24:20]
De nada. I'm just paying it forward. I print these things out and staple them into a booklet I carry in my backpack, so when I'm out and about and have a few spare minutes I can take out my little magnetic chess set and play through one or more of the little PGN snippets and really think about it. The videos are great, but the way my brain works I need the intermediate step before trying it in a game. Also, I find that the act of transcribing helps the material stick better too.
I've fixed the typos above.
As for the Ponzi (scheme) book, I guess you can find anyone willing to sell anything to try and make a buck. There is a recession going on, after all...

Found some errors in the PGN transcript. They have been corrected in the new version above.

Yo Katar, these videos are awesome. I love the idea of equalizing against e4 and just playing chess (even if I'm not very good at the chess part!). I'm finding chess much more enjoyable after seeing these videos. 5/5 of course.

I don't play any of these lines for either colour but it was a very interesting watch anyway and i think it will help with my opening play if i face offbeat lines; you explained the logic behind opening play clearly. Thank you very much.

Re: katar - 1.e4 e5 for Black: Danish, Goring, Ponzi [24:20]
Still going on this little project of working backwards through these and cleaning up the transcripts. This one didn't need much work, but I spaced things out so comments are spread over lines instead of embedded comments in embedded comments with no relationship between the lines and the comments, etc. I also moved a few things around to better accomodate both the comment nesting and the location of things realitve to the timeline in the video. It's too bad my indentations for the various levels of comments and variations don't come through in the post, but it isn't that hard to add them to your own copy if you're so inclined. That's true of all the other recent ones as well. Enjoy! 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 d5 (the "most psychotic" move 4.Bb5 leads to "insane complications" after 4...dxe4 5.Nxe5 Bd7 (Tarrasch's recommendation) (not the crazy 5...Qd5 or 5...Qg5 -- though the latter is a refutation, it's an insane, non-intuitive line that only a computer could love) 6.Qh5 (if 6.d4 Nxe5 still wins a piece) (if 6.Bxc6 Bxc6 7.Nxc6 bxc6 8.Qa4 Qd5 9.O-O f5 and Black is better) (if 6.Nxd7 Qxd7 7.d4 O-O-O and Black is fine) 6...Nxe5 7.Qxe5+ Be7 8.Bxd7+ (if 8.Qxg7 Bf6 9.Bxd7+ Qxd7 10.Qg3 O-O-O planning ...Ne7-f5 and ...Rhg8 which will be crushing) 8...Qxd7 9.Qxe4 O-O-O and White is in trouble) 4.Qa4 (most common) 4...Bd7 (Tarrasch's recommendation) 5.exd5 (if 5.Qc2 dxe4 6.Qxe4 Nf6 and White's position is horrible) 5...Nd4 6.Qd1 Nxf3+ 7.Qxf3 Bd6 (not 7...f5 8.Be2 Nf6 9.O-O e4 10.Qg3 Bd6 11.Qxg7 Rg1 12.Bh5+ Nxh5 13.Qxg8+ is horrible for Black) (not 7...Nf6 8.Bc4 supporting the d5 pawn and now Black can't play ...f5) (instead 7...Bd6 this keeps Black's options open) (if 8.Be2 don't weaken e8-h4 diagonal, instead 8...Nf6 9.O-O e4 10.Qe3 O-O is good for Black) (if 8.Bc4 f5 9.d4 e4 10.Qe2 Nf6 11.Bg5 O-O planning ...Qe8-g6 and Black is better)

Re: katar - 1.e4 e5 for Black: Danish, Goring, Ponzi [24:20]
And though I've been saying it for months, I'm close to finishing the CPT repertoire of these vids. Wildman's transcriptions have been invaluable in that quest- so thanks, Wildman and Katar!
