I still think Renier has a very instructive way of playing chess that's a great addition to the site. Another video that everyone should consider to watch : ).

Thank you for the video Renier. I like to play the KID and especially the Ghallagher line against White's fianchetto set-up. I look forward to your future videos, they are informative and instructive.

Re: IM Renier Castellanos: Suba - Castellanos, 2007 [33:52]
Great video again. We've been spoiled this week so so many new master videos! These types of positions I think are really hard to play. You did an excellent job explaining your strategy, and much better on the variations - this style of presenting the main lines after Rb8 was much more clear than your first video, so thanks for that. I'll consider this type of game after 1. c4 perhaps, since I might do a little better winging it in a system that I sort of vaguely understand, instead of just playing blind against 1. c4 which I usually do. The queen and pawn ending looked winning, but at the same time, I know I would have found a way to bumble it as black. Do you generally use a lot of time going into an ending like that? I know personally, after the rooks came off, at that point over the board I tend to spend a lot of time, maybe 30-40 minutes to try to plan it out best I can. What is your approach? Just raw calculation? I am curious because Queen and pawn endings tend to be very initiative/tempo based and one wrong move can turn a win into a loss or draw. Again, thanks for the new vid

Hi first of all thanks for the positive comments, Im a little new at this and sometimes I cannot express everything in the right way while recording. Regarding your questions, in this game we can't say the queens and pawns endgame was complicated, the white king was exposed and black's c pawn was a clear plus, i go in and then calculate, just that. I knew that there wasn't any pepetual so I just had to remain calm and try to promote my pawn, like I said in the video, what took me by surprise was how fast my opponent played Kf3 inviting me to trade the queens with Qd3+ entering in a king and pawn engame in wich even though I have an extra pawn I cannot win, that was a point in wich I had to stop and think, the rest was simple. As far as the opening goes, the whole system is interesting but hardly flawless, white has too many interesting choices against it and if you look Gallaghers own games you will find that things are not as beautiful as this game, but ok it's double edged and black often has chances.
Best regards
Renier
