Hey Dennis,

I don't know if this game analysis is going on still, but judging by your latest video, I assume it is :D

The times are listed and also my analysis moves and one annotation question. I achieved a quite solid position, looking for a plan to win, but managed to botch it up in a matter of moves and lost. I missed a possibly drawing move in the ending, but I gave up hope because our team match was lost if I drew,I was playing for a win, and while i was upset that the queens left the board so early, I was happy with some decent chances after move 16.

Hi Dennis. I was hoping you could look at this game for me which is from a rapidplay event I had recently here in London. I have never liked playing against the Modern and feel I got a bit lucky in this game e.g. the move 12. ... d5 seems poor from Black and I didn't see the point of him playing 17. ... Ra6 (but my computer says it is ok). How do you approach play against these wing openings with white? Finally, my computer was "screaming" for me to play g4 much earlier on than I did. Can you explain why? Finally, the clear blunder at the end (21 ... Nb4) let me in for a nice finish yes?

Thanks for your time on this game and I look forward to hearing from you in an upcoming show.

John.

Hi and thanks for your work here!

I had this position in a recent game.

Image

I played kg4 and he bc7
Unbelivable it seems to be a draw, at least I couldnt find a win for white in the analysis. Am I right?
And the computer suggests bg5 instead of bc7 but even in this line I couldnt find a win.

Hi, Dennis!!!
I have been experimenting with some rare Gruenfeld lines with White. Here is one game where I played an early Bg5 in the Exchange variation. Wanted to know if it is sound.

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3. Nc3 d5 4.cxd5 Nxd5 5.e4 Nxc3 6. bxc3 Bg7 7.Bg5 c5 8.Rc1 Qa5 9.Qd2 cxd4 10.cxd4 Qxd2 11.Kxd2 Nc6 12.Bb5 Bd7 13.d5 Ne5 14.Bxd7 Kxd7 15.f4 Ng4 16. Ke2 Rac8 17.Nf3 Rxc1 18.Rxc1 f6 19.Bh4 Rc8 20.Rxc8 Kxc8 21.Nd4 g5 22.h3 gxh4 23.hxg4 Bh6 24. Ne6 Kd7 25.g5 1-0

Would be 17...Bb2 and 21.h3.. an improvement for Black and White respectively?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dennis,

I have two questions about this game. The first has to do with the middle game. For some reason I seem to lose a lot in open positions like this one. I felt like I was better for most of the game but all of a sudden my position just collapsed! I know that 22.Bb6 and 23.Bd4 couldn't have been THAT strong of a combination, right?! :) I just couldn't come up with a refutation over the board though... I guess I should've just played 23. Qg6 and held it together instead of 23. ...Re8 (i didn't see 24.Qf1!) but it seemed like my attack just died.

That said, can you give me some general principles to to follow in open positions such as these? should I not have been in such a rush to try 21. ...g5?

Secondly, after I lost the pawn against that tactic, I figured that I might be able to hold a draw if I could get the queens off of the board. To my surprise my opponent obliged me on the first try! Is there any way to salvage the half point in this pawn down endgame? surely my bishop is better than his knight in an open position like this, right?

Thanks very much for your time... I look forward to you picking my game apart! :D

Hello Dennis

here i have a finalround game of a city open here which i won. I would like to ask you if you can analyse it and look for improvements for both sides and if this attack was premature. I actually won that game but it is far beyond my sight if this attack was actually correct or if it was a double edged sword.

Hi Dennis,

Here is one of my games from a recent tournament. I'm normally a solid player so this game while quite positional had some relatively interesting tactics and is a game where some pointers or learning points on playing these types of fluid positions would be of great help.

I have analyzed it myself but sometimes it takes a critical eye to go over it and find what I can't see.

I've left the annotations blank with just a few comments on the tournament itself and my main initial opening choice.

This is a game I played in the Najdorf Sicilian. I don't really know the theory very well, and in these aggressive openings I often don't know the best way to continue the attack. Obviously my opponent made a horrible blunder at the end.

Hei there Dennis. I won this game pretty easy. Not that I played that well, but I was lucky and won a pawn and a good position. It would be very nice if you could analyze this game. :-)

I really like your videos on here. Thank you so much for all the good work you do.

Hi Dennis,

Would love to hear your thoughts on this game I managed to draw against GM John Emms at a recent 20 board simul. I have been improving quite rapidly the last couple of years (has a lot to do with watching your shows) and I managed to win the British U120 ECF Championship in August. But drawing against a GM, even in a simul, was something I never thought possible.

Hello Dennis,
This game I played the black side with the handle delaney. I think the time control was game in 15 min. My question is to how not to lose the opening or lose right out of the opening. In this game I dropped a pawn right away somehow. I lost the opening and should have lost the game but was fortunate to win back the pawn and eventually the game after my opponent made some mistakes. Thank you if I get to hear your thoughts on this and thanks for all your videos.

Very fun attacking game with an intentional pawn sac and an accidental queen sac that is (still) totally winning but not obvious.
