Re: FREE--Endgame -- Simple Op. Rep for White and Black
Certain of Charles' repertoires (the IQP one) seems to be an original work and useful at that. However, I'm disappointed that the more detailed of the downloadable ChessBase files seem to be converted from Nigel Davies Everyman books, which are available as downloadable (or piratable) ChessBase files.
For example:
the Open Games for Black repertoire follows Nigel's "Play 1.e4 e5!"
the Gambit Repertoire for Black follows Nigel's "Gambiteer 2"
the Gambit Repertoire for White follows Nigel's "Gambiteer 1"
etc.
These seem to be ripped from the ChessBase e-books, stripped of comments.
As a person who scored 97/100 in Copyright Law on my final exam, i can tell you this is may be a violation of Nigel's copyright. Although chess moves and variations are not themselves copyrightable, the "selection and arrangement" is protected as a compilation. The Supreme Court case is Feist v. Rural (1991) 499 U.S. 340 if you want to google that and see for yourself.. Naturally this comment does not constitute legal advice and does not create an attorney-client relationship. (I have to say that, ok?!)
PS, the website displays correctly for me. Peace.
