Great games! In game 4: Hidden Text Below - [Show it] - [Hide it Again] 1.Qxf6 Bxe5 [1...gxf6 2.Nf7#] 2.Qxe5 with d5 and Rf7 hanging in the air looks good for you.

I understand that these are your videos and you can do them in anyway that you like. However, I have a few suggestions for improvement as one viewer which would make your videos at least more attractive for me. This video did have a better flow to it. There wasn't a lot of waiting around for moves to be played naturally since the games had already been played. In your lives games, there seems to be a lot of waiting around for moves to be played (which of course is understandable, but it can get a little boring), I know there was one where I think there was a pause of about 10 minutes while you were getting a battery pack or something else going on, I couldn't figure it out, but there was no action on the chessboard for quite some time. I have also found that my attention span is only good for about 25 to 30 minutes at most, even with the best of chess videos. I don't know if that is true with other people or not, but you may wish to consider shortening the length of your videos. For instance, I have to confess I was not able to watch your entire tactics video which I believe was about 60 minutes. Finally on this video, the analysis was -how should I put it- it left me wanting a little more detail. You made statements like "I played this move because it felt strong". I am not expecting master level analysis from you, but since you are putting these games on the internet, maybe some home computer analysis first would be warranted so you can present the games with more authority. On the third game, I believe, when you ran out of time and settled for a draw, I wanted to know what the best line of play would have been. Perhaps you could have picked your one or two best games and analyzed those just a little more deeply. That's my 2 cents worth. Good luck with your games and videos.

Hi John, thanks for the feedback.
During the Live games, there will be some pauses. It is important for me to use my time thinking otherwise I will blunder, whilst I have no control over how long my opponent takes. I could play faster, but then I would lose! The 10 minute gap you talk about was on my opponent's time- again I have no control over this. I did go away for between 1-2 minutes to get a power pack- but if I hadn't have done that there would be no video at all as my laptop would have shut down. Probably I should have looked at the power meter before starting the game. In future if there is a break that long, I will try to edit it out in post-production.
About the 60 mins of tactics- it was 60 mins becasue that's how long I did tactics for! If you skip to the end of the video, I did some blitz and that would be quicker paced and probably hold the audience's attention better. The video was titled "warts and all"- because my thinking is slow and imperfect. I would dearly love to make it better, which is why I'm doing the tactics in the first place!
About this video- I did warn at the beginning that I was going to present the games without too much analysis. I wanted to give an overview of the games and let the viewer decide for themselves. I didn't analyse them with a computer becasue in Rapid chess you're not too interested in "best" moves, only "good" moves which set your opponent problems. If you are interested in the objective best moves in the position, you can always set it up on a board or on your computer and analyse it yourself. I just wanted to give the viewer a sense of the ebb and flow of the games in an entertaining way without too much "chess analysis" content. One suggestion I would make is that you watch the first 20 mins of a video and then go back and watch the rest later on if your concentration span doesn't stretch that far.
I have done deeper Game Analysis videos before, but those are often over 30 minutes for one game! It is not possible for me to analyse in detail and keep the pace up above 30 mins. Also, it is not easy to explain things for all audiences. The comments which will be useful for a 1200 player will be very different from what is useful for an 1800 player. I plan to make some videos aimed more at beginners in the future- look out for those!

Alright Sarciness. You are a very good player and as I said before, best of luck with your future chess and videos. Unfortunately my summer vacation is over and it's back to work for me tomorrow. So I won't be able to watch many videos or bull sh... in these forums for quite a while, which I think is a good thing for all people involved.

I've just re-watched this video and actually I have to agree with you that this video could and should have been better. Given the high quality of my chess in this tournament (for me), it wouldn't have taken much extra to put the game through a blunder check with the computer and spend a little time analysing key positions so that I can understand things better and therefore explain better.
