Post Fun minature with a motif I've never seen before.
This is from a blitz I just played.

I've never seen this idea before but it looks like the kind of thing that could occur in a few different situations. Anybody know of any similar games where this has happened?

Btw the opening was terrible, I know... ;) He played h3 and I contented myself with a Slav...and an a6 slav at that. Bad choice, but the opponent was much lower rated and I'm too tired to be more creative right now :)

Hope you like the game!

I liked the game Flint, but I'm not sure what unusual motif you might be referring to. Weird that he dropped his queen like that- Nxf7 just looks like suicide. Good job at any rate! :)

The motif is that the queen has nowhere to run! Bc2 is the winning move.

Nxf7 is suicide I guess, but more the kind of suicide somebody with a terminal illness may commit to relieve the suffering :) Fritz prefers Nxd7, not that it makes much difference.

I'm not sure exactly if it's a motif exactly, but it looks like the kind of thing that could come up in many games, a bit like the old Na4 trick if black takes a poisoned pawn on b2 in many openings.

This kind of thing: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6 7. f4 Qb6 8. a3 Qxb2?? 9. Na4 1-0

Doh! Well, now I just feel stupid! ! I just thought he overlooked the attack on the queen (obviously half-asleep) because the position looked so open that it didn't even occur to me that it was trapped. Again- well done!

Well I played Qc7 quite innocently, just to put pressure on e5, then suddenly realised there was the possibility of chasing his queen around a bit if he defended e5. I thought it could a bit annoying for him, but I was suprised myself when I analysed the line, saw e6, and realised the game was already over. Amazing how such innocent looking opening positions can come to such an abrubt end.
