I think Kaidanov was right, your intuition probably gave 16...Bd7 a subconscious approval. This makes sense though it can be alarming at times because at your level things are much more subtle and impacting in the long run. But if it makes you feel any better about it, imagine the many attacks you have played over the years and you follow some forced line and then your opponent plays a move you didn't expect but you quickly notice that his idea doesn't work. It's a similar situation here, it is inconsequential that you missed Bb5 probably because you noticed it on a different level, had the rook actually been in peril I am sure you would have reacted differently. This is an interesting phenomenon in chess, "Did I see that? Or Didn't I?" If you find an answer, please let me know!

I always found it tough playing overseas (fun, but tough). Even if you give time to acclimate to the new environment it's still not like playing on home turf.

I really enjoy this series, thanks for the time and effort to bring these to us.

Thanks for the kind words Steve! Still it's always shocking when they play a move and you have only one reply that doesn't lose, and you didn't even consciously think of the move :)
