Haha! You called them the Harrwitz bishops early on. I had to laugh because I have an ongoing debate with a friend who swears that these are the Harrwitz bishops and not the Horwitz bishops. Just to mix it up with him I explained the Harrwitz bishops are when they are on the far side of the board from each other but control four adjacent squares in the enemy camp. Okay, I confess, he's no longer a friend.

All great games and I am glad you didn't forget the Georg Rotlewi vs Akiba Rubinstein 1907 game, my all time favorite. Gotta love the bishop pair! Let's see a pair of knights just try and do what these guys can do from across the board!

Yes, seen them 3000 times, but the Bologan game I still have to see it 2996 more times. Good selection of games and great presentation - 3000 times 'Thank You' :D

There's a small analysis error in Rubinstein's Immortal: After 1... Rd2!! 2. Bxc3 the fastest winning move for Black is 2... Bxe4+ (rather than the prosaic 2... Rxe2) with the idea 3. Qxe4 Rxh2 mate.

Not Harrwitz - the guys name was Bernhard Horwitz - for what reason ever - nobody knows it - Nimzowitsch gave this name to the bishops in the book "my system" :?:

In his essay “Die Horrwitz-Läufer” by Peter Gütler (Lübeck) in Kaissiber 10, p. 42/ 43, the author claims that Nimzowitsch derived the term from one of B. Horwitz's studies.

@shakespeare: I guess at some point I misspoke and said "Harrwitz", but I said "Horwitz" about 3000 times, wrote "Horwitz" when titling the lecture and referred Bernhard Horwitz, distinguishing him from Daniel Harrwitz. And at least I never called them "Horowitz bishops!" :)
