Very exciting games - especially the second one. Watching this in bed but don't think I will sleep now :D

But it's a shame you didn't offer to take him on in his famous Smith Morra!

Nice games. The first one was strange. In the second game, I missed Rc8 but saw Rh8 instead. Doesn't that also work? I enjoy trying to play along in real time.

Thanks---hms

Yes, rook anywhere works...such a weird oversight but timetrouble induced I hope ;-)

Given how rarely I play the Sicilian and how good he is with the Smith Morra I guess I'd be a duck.....and a sitting one!!

Nice games. Thx for posting.
Was lucky to see them live on chess.com - without comments ofc. It's interesting to get your thoughts about it afterwards.

So nice to have new vids from you. Esserman's time management was very puzzling in that first game- he played noticeably slower in the second- respect!. BTW, my kids were wondering (they're your new biggest fans now) if you knew or played Bobby Fischer while he lived in Iceland?

I never played him but I saw him several times, most often randomly. Most often during weekends downtown, seems like he was often up late and twice I just saw him sitting on a bench for a long time very late during weekends and then I saw hiim once on KFC which I thought was funny for some reason. If you haven't I recommend getting the book by GM Helgi Olafsson about Fischer. Olafsson has almost perfect memory and I think he has some interesting Bobby stories if you are interested in that.

I bought Esserman's book on the Morra and you skunked him... when are you coming out with a book? London System? Nice games.

Just saw him play a blitz match vs a strong player today and yesterday...they played only Smith-Morra and when I stopped watching today it was 15-2 for Esserman! Some really exciting lines he was playing, some early Nd5 piece sacrifice....looked fun to play and fun to watch!

Yeah, I'm building a pretty comprehensive CPT file based on the book. There are lines that he puts in the book that are naturally meant to sell the book where better defenses are to be found for Black. Still, no matter what Black plays, it's not a simple matter of take the pawn and win in the endgame like I used to think. Computers have really turned that opening on its head!
