i'm really enjoying these videos, that game seemed a little one-sided what with 2 bishops vs 2 nights and no counterplay, i'm wondering if there wasn't a better opening line you could have chosen to avoid this (maybe u showed one). anyway thanks for sharing.

Not sure what I should have chosen, I seemed to have a reasonable position after like 20 moves. Like I said he has very solid lines against everything in 1.c4 although some of them dont give him any advantage he is very experienced in those positions and somehow scores well from them and usually he is grinding his wins out in an endgame. I think the line is ok per se it's just very difficult to make any play to try and win against him with black. Perhaps 0-0 and answer f4 with takes and Re8 was a more reasonable way to play it. Anyhow I need a reliable weapon vs 1.c4 and also a reason I like to play it myself because people are generally less prepared for it.

Also thanks for watching and the feedback. Guess without the responses I wouldn't feel like making those :-)

Thanks Zibbit for posting this. I was looking forward to seeing you demolish the English but alas it was a loss. Brave of you to post as a learaning idea. I lost last W/E to an English in 8 moves but should have been 5 after a Qa4+ picking up the b4 bishop. I hate the English and need a line against it!

In one move those bishops were tranformed into monsters and your knights were useless. Good game by white. Have you beaten him before?

Yes I found it almost amazing how out of nowhere the bishops took over. I thought my position was ok at the beginning of that ending with 2R/2B vs 2R/2N and the computer agrees and with correct defense it must be a draw somehow but practically more difficult position for black as was demonstrated.

I have played with this Grandmaster once before actually in a closed tournament in Gausdal in Norway. I had the white pieces then and got a big advantage out of the opening, something like +1.2 in the computer but of course I chose a completely stupid plan and tried to make something silly happen instead of just maintaining the advantage alas I lost. In my defence that particular tournament was many 5 years ago when I was much weaker and my confidence in that tournament was somewhere not to be found I guess!
