Post Re: gooeyjim's training journal
Today I played my 5th round TL game. It was against one of FICS's best, Kyuuketsuki. (ranked #7)

it was a tough battle and I emerged with a draw in the end. I played ok in this game and it remained pretty equal in the end despite my opponent's hopes of generating imbalances. Even though I played all right, I realize that I have issues with calculating. For example, for a moment I thought in the end gxf4? loses to Qd1+ Bf1 Qg4+ Bg2 Be4, but I didn't see that f3! Bxf3 Qd2 gives white a clear advantage. In the final position, it is drawn btw.
Anyway my score is +1 =3 -1 and I can look foward to beating someone weaker in the last round!

I am so sick of my play today.

My final TL game was against Elery. Appearantely he is a 2350 IM on FICS, but he lost 3 of his 5 games before. I am so disgusted with the way i play. First, I mess up and get some really weird position out of the opening, next I rushed in and missed a few oppertunities, and finally i got a horrible endgame which i lost. Unbelieveable. My TL score is -2 =3 -1. I have a negative score and I lost in the last round. This makes me very sad :(

Don't be too hard on yourself. We can't always see everything. Perhaps you should've kept things closed with 22.b5 22.Qd2 looks interesting too. But of course hindsight is 20/20 Best of luck in future battles :)

b5?? is a horrible move and after cd and Nc5 white is pretty busted. With dxc5 white takes away c5 from the black knight and opens up his own bishop.
Idk about being so tough on myself... I know it's just a game but in the open section great accuracy is required... it's not a want, it's a must.
