Nice game and some fun variations. Games like that one are really instructive for lower level players and I also like how you made it interactive making the viewer stop and find the tactics himself, something I might wanna do more of myself. Good job!

Really cool video. Both an interesting and unusual game and good explanations.
Thank you!

Hi Katar

Excellent! It's great to get a game like that. You certainly kept the initiative. Very well presented too may I say.

This lesson is awesome, I am at a loss to describe how your attack kept gaining steam even though there were points in which I thought black had survived the worst. Great job

Great fun, that game!

It would be interesting to know your decision making process before playing Bxf7+.I assume that you sac'ed on f7 with at least some intuition involved- or did you somehow work out everything before the sac? If you didn't work out everything, how much did you actually see before going for the sac?

Thanks katar.

Hmm, that game was played in Feb. 2006 when i was rated 1595. (I gained 106 points in the tournament in which this game was played, to land at 1701.)

I remember thinking that Black had broken several principles, and if i let him castle, i'm letting him off the hook. I mean 1...d6 2...Nd7??? What is that? Does he think he can just play whatever he pleases against me?

I did not find the Nxh7 and Qg8 mate, but i believed there must be something there with all the discovered/double check possibilities. I was convinced that everything should be losing except the Ke8, c7-c5 idea, which i judged as "unclear" (actually Black is slightly better). There was also some psychology in that i believed my opponent would not enjoy the ensuing chaos/imbalance. (To this day i am 5-0 against him, several massacres like this one.)

I was quite proud of the game at the time. All the moves and combinations in the game are no more than 3 moves deep and quite manageable for a weak club player who concentrates hard on each move. THat's why i think it's a good lesson on "initiative".

@kamus, also see this game: viewtopic.php?t=5607

Well the Bxf7+ sacrifice got the 2700+ seal of approval. Computer engines think Black is OK, but look what happened to Anish Giri (ELO 2734).

Here is my game from the video with Kg6 rather than Ke8.

Thank you Sarc!

Coincidentally I played blitz for the first time in a long time recently one of my 8 games that day transposed to the position with 7.Bxf7 and 9.f4. :)
