The Reti study is the Platonic form of the idea, and the other two examples occur every day. Keep up the good work and congratulations on winning the contest!

I have known this Reti study etc for years - but just today I was looking at Znosko-Borovski's Endgame book and he starts with this very theme of the geometry of the chess board -and even though I knew most of these ideas - one cant have them refreshed enough: no matter how strong one is, as these ideas recur in OTB chess (or other, correspondence and blitz) when all often doesn't seem so easy. Also these basic concepts underlie the more complex ones. |
