After 90 min or so on tempo, got 73 problems done with 1452 rating and 51.59% solve.Spent about 30 min in CT-ART. Did 14 problems as per http://www.chesscentral.com/articles_ch ... ct-art.htm with score 148 out of 250 for 59%. I am moving too fast, need to slow the frack down.
I played 3 standard games today on FICS and won all 3. Opps were 1469,1365 and 1421. The quickest was against the 1365 and only lasted 11 moves. he mis-calculated an exchange and ended up down rook and a pawn. After these my current FICS rating is 1478 for 88-60-6. A new high rating best! I did make one blunder in a game by seeing a Kn fork and then fracking moving into, argh. I lost the exchange. He was attacking on my king-side and center but by counter-attacking on the queen-side I was able to get a passed pawn he couldnt stop.

I did 50 problems on Tempo in about 75 min with end rating of 1481 and solve of 51.52%.
Worked on 22 problems in Ct-art with 40% success and final rating of 1630. It took about 45 - 60 minutes. Getting more use to this nice program and how to use it in accordance to http://www.chesscentral.com/articles_chess/chess-training-ct-art.htm.
Also finished Ch 3 in WCT on pins.
Got in 2 games on FICS, won both and now have new rating of 1500 with 91-60-7 record. Time to up my seek formula to 1300-1700. My RD is 39.1.

I had a frustrating time on Tempo today. Did 70 problems in about 90 min with final rating of 1482 and final solve of 51.38%. Started out good then went to chit after. At one point I had 10 correct for 22 wrong but near the end I got over my frustration. Seemed every time I went for a hanging piece I missed a mate or vice versa.

Welp after about a week long break Im back. At first it was a chess free weekend and then it just stretched and stretched till I was yearning for some more torture, haha.
Got about 45-50 problems done on tempo with a final rating of 1524 in an hour or so. Not bad.
Read thru Ch4 on Skewers in WCT and did the small number of tests on them at the end. Also read thru Ch5 dealing with king tactics and small combinations involving back rank mates and bashing through king cover. Will probably be smart to review Ch 5 tmw.

Did about 39 problems on Tempo this morning with a end rating of 1530. Im not gonna worry about solve % anymore because to be truthfull its pointless. The problems increase or decrease in rating depending on your rating so... Will come back later today and work some more but right now gotta get rid of a headache.
Got 14 problems done in Ct-art, took about 15 min max, they were easy.
Got some games in on FICS. I happen that my losses seem to be now blatant positional errors instead of the dropping piece and falling into tactical blunder errors. Ill maybe post a loss tmw. For now my record on FICS is 99-65-7 with rating of 1533 and a seek formula of 1300-1700. havent played any 1700's yet.

Did 50 problems in a hour or so on tempo with a end rating of 1551. Really happy about my improvement in tactical vision. if I dont get the problem correct outright, Im pretty darn close on the key squares, just seem to mess up the correct exchange seems like.

Naw, haven't done anything chess-related in 3 year or so. Dusting off my old programs and such. Is Tempo still around?
Ill probably get back on FICS and get in 50 or so games to see where I'm at before setting up some kind of study program first.

Yeah. It says it has ten thousand active solvers, so it's still going strong.

Good luck with your games!

Post Re: stry's journal
Got about 3 hours of tactics training in and also played a game against my computer that I posted. I tried analysizing it but my lack of knowledge was very apparent. Other than dropped pieces, I didn't know what to look for really. I understand some of the basic concepts such as getting control of open files with my rooks and getting my bishops out on diagonals. But after watching a video here on basic planning, I see just more huge gaps in my knowledge. When I play a game, I very rarely come up with a plan such as using my material advantage on one side to start attack. Usually my games are probably more reactionary and then trying to capitalize on my opponent's mistakes.
I know the tactics training is important because it will burn into my memory patterns that should jump out at me and that with time and practice it will get easier to spot them. I need to get the process or rather the method etched in on what to look for that says there is a tactic possible in a particular position. I know about it vaguely such as a un-defend piece my by subject to attack or a King with no moves but I find myself not consicouly(sp?) looking for this
But what the heck do I do when I'm not seeing any tactics or mistakes in my opponent's play? When I feel I'm just treading water to avoid drowning perhaps? lol.
I also know that I should be analysizing my losses. My quandry tho is I don't really know what I should be looking for other than blundered pieces or when I step into and recieve a tactic such as a fork or a pin.
Oh well, just some late night ramblings from a Class D player who loves the end-less possiblities of this game.
