Fascinating position! I assume since this was from Van Perlo, that this was a real game and not a study. It could easily have been a study though! I confess that I missed a lot of variations, so your analysis was quite instructive. I recently obtained the book (primarily on your recommendation) and it is indeed excellent. The only criticism I have is not of the chess at all, but whatever the audio codec you used caused some phasing effect that made it a bit difficult to listen to- otherwise, great job- thanks! :D

Yes, all positions in VP's book are real games, which is one of the reasons it is so great :)

I didn't find all the ideas myself the first time I calculated, some of it was filled in with engine help after that. But testing these ideas is a really great way to spend your time. :)

Audio problems, yeah, I'm still trying out other ways to get rid of that.

Hitch, you might try (if you have bandwidth/patience) just leaving the audio lossless or at minimum compression settings because I'm pretty sure the chessvideos server re-processes uploaded videos anyway. I just checked and my videos are recorded in stereo; AAC 44.1khz. -that's close to lossless, I believe (which now that I look at it is ridiculous because stereo is absolutely unnecessary- I'll have to change that). The point is that obviously the chessvideo server is doing the compression after the fact and I think that the audio on my videos is OK even if the content is a bit dodgy. :P

BTW, you should do more of these Van Perlo positions. The fact that you do your own analysis keeps it from being any kind of copyright issue. I'm basically taking the same approach on my endgame videos: using a position from an endgame book as a starting point and filling in the gaps with my own analysis.

I'll think about doing more of them.

The problem is my headset, if I don't boost it it's too quiet, if I boost it I have sound issues. What I'll try to do is record sound with my mp3 player and sync it.

Hmmm,
to me it seems that in the final variation a white is at least very difficult. If black does't play Bh2 and instead centralizes his king with Ke6, what is white's winning plan?
White takes the pawn Kxe2 Kd5 how can white make progress? His pawn on b2 is weak and exchanging pawns with b3 doesn't help much. The black king goes to c6 where he can't be driven away and black moves only his bishop, ideally on the d8-a5 diagonal.
Should be a draw!
