Re: katar - Personal Chess Trainer, Chessimo demo [8:55]
i have to disclose: the displayed examples are from Tactics Module 1, unit 14.
the program has five tactics modules, each with 51 units. the modules are graded by increasing difficulty.
so the displayed examples are only 14/255 or about 5% of the way thru the Tactics program. YES they get much harder as you go on. In the past i completed Tactics Modules 1 and 2, and started on 3. So i had made it about halfway thru the program a couple yrs ago.

I have the trial version of this but im a bit short on money at the moment. Is it worth buying for the end game modules? as there are already free sites for tactics.

Nice training tool. Obviously you are getting very good at tactics and I used to do stuff like that on trainingbot on ICC all the time, really helps.
Also thanks for the pattern rec vid plugs on 5:08 and some more on the "Karpov Choke" and Boden's mate ;-)

Re: katar - Personal Chess Trainer, Chessimo demo [8:55]
I've never used the Endgame modules. I'd recommend to try the Endgame module in the trial version and if you like it you can consider buying. I think it has annotated endgames too(??) For drilling tactics, i actually prefer PCT over the web-based servers. Chess.emrald is the only other worthy option IMO (just my opinion!) Like i said you can try the free trial and see for yourself. There are some George W. Bush moments in this video-- it's hard to talk and think at the same time. "Repetitions is necessary" "Is our children learning?" :)

Re: katar - Personal Chess Trainer, Chessimo demo [8:55]
Treat me as a newbie in Chess world; From where I can get or download Chessimo & other alike programs?? I have one reservation; Will simulation based trainer can give me edge?? I mean they are just a computer program and have limited built in turns installed in them! Am I behaving like a paranoid OR walking on the right lines?? ____________________ -- Education is the key: 17th edition training started --

Re: katar - Personal Chess Trainer, Chessimo demo [8:55]
http://chessimo.com/ should do the trick. there are hundreds of alike programs. some are simply websites rather than programs, like http://chess.emrald.net . http://chesstempo.com is another. any kind of chess practice will give you an edge. the main thing is to find a way to make it enjoyable. if it is not fun, then by all means go do something else that is fun. good luck.

Re: katar - Personal Chess Trainer, Chessimo demo [8:55]
I tested the chessimo trial and the previous program I think "personal chess trainer" (?). The program itself is nice, but on my netbook it insisted to it's native screen resolution, which allowed me to see only six ranks of the chessboard. Didn't find a way to change that in the program. Also, I didn't want to change the computer screen resolution before and after using the program. Anyway, except the statistics I do not really see the advantage of those special tactics training programs. You can download the "bestmove" database for free in the web, which contains about 3000 positions + solutions. Should keep one busy for some time. Personally, I am just reading Zenon Franco's "Giant chess puzzle book" at the moment. Going to work by public transport, I like reading books much more than watching a display.

Re: katar - Personal Chess Trainer, Chessimo demo [8:55]
I have Chessimo and I like it. Haven't had any screen issues either on a 15" laptop or a 10" netbook. Still, given other resources available, it's not necessarily a must-have by any means. I do like the endgame exercises though.
