Thanks for posting this! So far I have been using chess position trainer to help me study openings, but I may try this software as well! It just seems like so much work manually typing out the moves of each line, whereas in CPT there is a board so I can put them in a lot faster. One of the problems with CPT though is that once you solve an opening line, it doesn't come up any less than the ones you fail to solve. Once I get the mainlines down good I will probably add flash cards, but only for the very critical positions.

Nah, i'm pretty sure CPT keeps score of each move individually and can be set to give you positions where you score lowest.

IMO CPT is pretty much light years ahead of the very labor intensive system in the video.

I happen to have made a couple demo videos.

What was the set-up time on this? I couldn't see myself needing 2000 positions but a few hundred might be useful.

Ya know, the only reason I didn't use CPT is that it didn't work on my computer--just froze whenever I tried it. I'm not sure why. Anyway, it was a ton of work to put in moves, but all in all I'm very happy with it. Obviously, CPT is more suited to easy input, as it is designed for chess. Wish I knew why it won't work for me.

Chess Openings Wizard is a commercial program similar to CPT. I actually use both- I like the training function of CPT a little better but COW looks a little nicer and has some nice modifiable e-books available for it that I use a lot. I believe COW has a free version but it is hobbled in some way. I can't imagine using a flashcard system when these programs are available but then again, they don't run on portable devices and on my computer, they don't crash. Windows XP running on a Mac.

The SCID program also features opening training with performance statistics, however without employing a Leitner system.

(SCID Menu: Play->Training->Openings)

maybe it's a Vista issue, but I have tried downloading CPT three times and every time it freezes whenever I load it up. Kind of frustrating. This flash card system might not be for everyone, but I do love it.

There is about a 30 second lag on my XP pc when I start CPT, but it runs fine once it loads up. Very nice program.

Oh boy. You guys really work hard on your chess. I could never imagine myself doing anything like this. You hear things, but never thought anyone really did this type of stuff. I cannot imagine the type of dedication involved. I hope it works for you.
