Post A mistake in today's puzzle?
Hey there

Firstly I want to say that I think the one who is creating the daily puzzle here at the site is doing a tremendous job, so keep it up! :)

But however today I think I found a mistake which kind of annoyed me, and meant that I did not get it right.

So it is today's puzzle, and after the initial Ne6, can black not reply with Nd5, and delay the checkmate one move.

Well that is the way I see it, so am I missing something, or what do you think?

I don't create the puzzle but you are right about Nd5 delaying the mate- the thing is, that's just one variation so in order to solve the puzzle you need to see all the relevant variations to solve it- the computer just presented you with a shorter variation. At the same time, this may well be an error but I'm just saying, it shouldn't really have distracted from solving.

The solution I got is below:

Hidden Text Below - [Show it] - [Hide it Again]

Ah, you're right. Sorry about that! I wouldn't exactly say the puzzle is wrong though. Ne6 is still the fastest mate possible, even factoring in Nd5.

Yeah well.

The fact is just that I would not play this because it is not mate in 2. So I would look for a mate in 2 which I could not find and blew it.
