Re: White against Benko gambit
Has anyone analyzed Corus 2008 Van Wely vs Carlsen? Carlsen may have won as black...but it's obvious it wasn't because of the opening. The line Van Wely played may look awkward with b3 and a4, but with correct middlegame play....Black will be forced to redeploy his heavy pieces and try to play on the kingside since white will be the one playing on the queenside. White basically develops his kingside pieces first, then his queenside pieces and eventually castles short after b3 is played. The idea of b3 and a4 afterwards is very sound. Oh and BTW, white is still up a pawn in this line for awhile. Just one of those examples where if you only look at the result, u might think white's line is bad....but it's not.
