Analysis for TrialAndError
T&E, I can't get your game into PGN format, I'm not sure what's wrong. But once I do, I'll get a replayer window posted. Also, T&E, if you have a PGN of the game, it would be great if you could post it in here so I can get things converted.
Here's the game score (if anybody sees how this isn't in correct PGN format, please tell me):
[White "TrialAndError"]
[Black "NN"]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]
1.Nf3 d5 2.d4 e6 3.Bf4 c5 4.e3 Qb6 5.Qc1 Nc6 6.c3 h6 7.Bd3 g5 8.Bg3 Nf6 9.O-O c4 10.Bc2 Bg7 11.b3 Nh5 12.bxc4 Nxg3 13.fxg3 g4 14.Nfd2 Bd7 15.Na3 Ne7 16.Rb1 Qa6 17.Qb2 Rc8 18.e4 dxc4 19.Naxc4 Rxc4 20.Bd3 Rb4 21.Bxa6 Rxb2 22.Rxb2 bxa6 23.Rb7 f5 24.exf5 Nxf5 25.Rxa7 Nxd4 26.Ra8+ Ke7 27.Rxh8 Bxh8 28.cxd4 Bxd4+ 29.Kh1 Bb5 30.Rc1 e5 31.Nb3 Bb6 32.Nc5 Kd6 33.Ne4+ Ke7 34.Rc8 Bd4 35.Rg8 Bc4 36.Rg7+ Ke6 37.Rxg4 Kf5 38.Rh4 Bxa2 39.Nd2 a5 40.Nf3 Bc3 41.Rxh6 a4 42.g4+ Kf4 43.Rf6+ Ke4 44.Ra6 Bb3 45.Ng5+ Kd3 46.h4 e4 47.Kg1 e3 48.Nf3 Bd5 49.Rd6 Ke4 50.Ra6 Kd3 1/2-1/2
Here is my analysis:
1.Nf3 d5 2.d4 e6 3.Bf4 c5 4.e3 Qb6 5.Qc1 Nc6 6.c3 h6 7.Bd3 g5 8.Bg3 Nf6 9.0-0
[9.h3]
9...c4 I don't really like this move, it kills black's central pressure.
10.Bc2 Bg7 11.b3
[11.Nbd2 this followed by playing for e4 looks good to me. 11...Bd7 12.e4 0-0-0 13.b3 white has pressure in the center and on the queenside.]
11...Nh5 12.bxc4 Nxg3 13.fxg3
[13.hxg3 this looks more natural to me, although your line is probably fine. 13...dxc4 14.Na3]
13...g4 this is pretty bad because it allows you to defend c4, but the alternatives aren't any better. Black is paying for recklessly advancing his kingside pawns....black's center is collapsing.
[13...dxc4 14.Na3]
14.Nfd2 Bd7 15.Na3 Ne7 16.Rb1 Qa6 17.Qb2 Rc8 18.e4 this is a good move, I provided an alternative (but it's really no better than what you played).
[18.Nb5 0-0 19.Qb4 Nc6 20.Qa3 Qxa3 21.Nxa3 trading queens and getting a much better position]
18...dxc4
[18...dxe4 19.Nxe4 white has a huge advantage. 19...0-0 20.Nf6+ Bxf6 21.Rxf6 Kg7 22.Rf4]
19.Naxc4
[NOTE: 19.e5 I think this is stronger than the game continuation. Here's the position:
The g7 bishop is now terrible and white has a crushing space advantage. The black knight can come to d5, but white is still much better. 19...Nd5 20.Ne4 A) 20...0-0 21.Qxb7 Qxa3 22.Qxd7 A1) 22...Nxc3 23.Rxf7 A1a) 23...Ne2+ 24.Kh1 Rxf7 25.Nf6+ Bxf6 (25...Rxf6 26.exf6 Bxf6 27.Qxe6+ Kg7 28.Rb7+) 26.Qxc8+ Qf8 27.Qxc4 Nxd4 28.Qxd4 Bxe5 29.Qxg4+ Kh8 30.Bd3 White is winning here although it might be annoying with the opposite colored bishops.; A1b) 23...Rxf7 24.Qxc8+ Bf8 (24...Rf8 25.Qxe6+ Rf7 26.Rb8+; 24...Qf8 25.Qxf8+ Rxf8 26.Nxc3) 25.Nxc3 Qxc3 26.Bg6 Qxd4+ 27.Kh1 Rf2 28.Qc7; A2) 22...Rcd8 23.Qa4; B) 20...Bf8 this move seems to meet white's threats, but it keeps black's king trapped in the center. 21.Nb5 d6 is very weak.]
Now back to the game.....
19...Rxc4 20.Bd3 Rb4 21.Bxa6 Rxb2 22.Rxb2 bxa6 23.Rb7 white is better here but it might be difficult to win.
23...f5 24.exf5
[24.Rxa7 I would rather take some material right away.]
24...Nxf5 25.Rxa7 Nxd4 26.Ra8+ Ke7 27.Rxh8 Bxh8 28.cxd4 Bxd4+ 29.Kh1 Bb5 30.Rc1 e5 31.Nb3 Bb6 This position is frustrating because if you could activate your king, you would have a great position but it's surprisingly difficult to do so.
32.Nc5 Kd6 33.Ne4+ Ke7 34.Rc8 Bd4 35.Rg8 I like this move. Attacking black's vulnerable pawns is logical.
35...Bc4
[35...h5 36.Rg7+ (36.h3 note that this is a serious blunder. 36...gxh3 37.gxh3 Bc6) 36...Ke6 37.Rh7]
36.Rg7+ Ke6 37.Rxg4 Kf5 38.Rh4 Bxa2 39.Nd2 a5 40.Nf3
[40.Rxh6 I think this move is the only way for you to win. A) 40...Bc3 41.Nc4 I think this is the winning move and a very difficult one to find over the board. 41...Bxc4 (41...a4 42.Nd6+ Kg5 43.Rh4 Bd4 44.Nb5 Bb3 45.Nxd4 exd4 46.Rxd4 a3 47.Rd7 a2 48.Ra7 white should win this pretty easily.) 42.Rc6 Bb3 43.Rxc3 a4 44.Kg1; B) 40...Be3 note that this fails... 41.Rh5+ Kg4 42.Rxe5 Bxd2 43.Re2 and white wins.]
40...Bc3 41.Rxh6
[41.Kg1 this might have been one of your last tries for the win. 41...Bb3 42.Rxh6 a4 43.Kf2 e4 44.Rc6 Bb2 45.Nh4+ Ke5 46.Ng6+ Kd4 even this is starting to look like a draw.]
41...a4 42.g4+ Kf4 43.Rf6+ Ke4 44.Ra6 Bb3 45.Ng5+ Kd3 46.h4 e4 47.Kg1 e3 this is starting to look like a draw. Black's pawns are too advanced.
48.Nf3 Bd5 49.Rd6 Ke4 50.Ra6 Kd3 draw
Nice game! The ending was very difficult, but that made it fun to analyze
