Congrats! Weird game but you brought home the bacon.

Post Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
I have played 2 games in the latsest team 45 45 league. The first was an uninteresting draw in a classical Sicilian (I was black). This round I was black again. Here is the game:

Not worthy of it's own video, just a series of tactical blunders (starting with 18.Qa4?) by white. I handled his mistakes well. Nice to get a point for the team!

I played too fast and didn't know the opening. The sharp nature of the Henning-Schara meant that it came down to tactical awareness and I came out on top in the skirmish.

I chose 0-0 instead of 0-0-0 to get my opponent out of book as he seemed to be playing near-instantly. I saw the idea on Gambit Guide by GM Boris Altermann- he lost against this in a simul.

It's been a long time since I've posted, but I've not forgotten about chess! I briefly started working with FM Ryan Harper from my father's native Trinidad. He is an excellent teacher and we gelled very well. Unfortunately, the crappy internet in China recently has precluded any further lessons. However, I have played a few more "standard" games and have broken 1950 for the first time. Here's the game that did it: my trusted Vienna!

What did you have in mind after 8...Nxe4?

Nxe4 looks wrong. Qh5 and black looks to be in trouble, no? If g6, Qf3 looks crushing.

There might well be a crush. I just thought 8..Nxe4 looked critical, so you need something very convincing. So what after 9.Qh5 Nd6? My point is just that black was way worse so it would be a shame to let him off the hook. To be honest, this is too complicated for me today, as I still have the lurgy.

Black is wasting time there, I think 10. 0-0 looks good with pressure on f7. c6 is also falling.

Hey all, sorry I've not analysed or posted any Gibraltar games since R1! Been very busy with travel and a new school year here in China (complete with a whole heap of office politics!)

I should have more free time from mid-March!

Wow, nearly a year since I last posted in my journal!

So I haven't had much time for chess in China but I'm currently on holiday, playing chess in Gibraltar again! I'm a bit rusty but doing okay. 'A' week is finished, 5 rounds to play for 'B' week.

I won't spoil the results as I'll make videos of the games... eventually!

Did you attend any master classes? I have to say, Chucky's lectures every year (look for them on YT, here's the latest one) are some of my favourite chess content ever.

Anyway, good luck for the remaining rounds, Sarc!

Hey Fox, have been watching the commentary by Krush and GingerGM, they are excellent but haven't been to any masterclasses as they end about 11PM and I have to get back to my boat BnB then get up for chess the next morning. I saw Chucky's last year online- really excellent. This year's one I watched about half but find it hard to follow- he is too fast for me!

Post Copying Katar
Hmm, well I gave up the 2...Nf6 Scandanavian for 1...e5 and now I've taken up 1.d4. Seems like I'm copying Katar big time!

Here is my latest 1.d4 games. I think it's one of my best ever!

Congrats on a fine game and even finer choice of a model suitable for copying. ;)

Partially made up for last week's chess failure with a strong showing this week.

As black in a Tarrasch Defence my opponent gave me a superior endgame and then connected passed pawns in a rook ending. Having studied that endgame before it was easy money.
