 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
Today I played the guy who beat me 2 weeks ago. Another smooth win in the Tarrasch: http://team4545league.org/pgnplayer/pgn ... p?id=75434

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
That's weird- I'm pretty sure I wrote "Such a bind you put him in!" I've no idea how it ended up like that!

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
Haven't posted here in about 9 months but it seems I'm an active online player again! Just hit an all-time high 5-min rating on ICC. 1846- doesn't sound like much but I usually hover around 1500 (1300 on a bad day!) so I've suddenly shot up 300 points. Odd!
Anyhow, I've logged 4780 5-min games. Sad admission maybe? I love it.

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
Glad you're back in the saddle. As to the SM thread, I confess that I'm stalled- I've had an unexpectedly busy summer with a University teaching gig that came out of nowhere. I hope to get back to it in August.

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
I've entered 2 5-round tournaments this summer. One is an under 180 ECF (2050 Fide) and the other is an Open (unfortunately my grade of 160 makes me 1 point over the limit to play the U160). I'm out of practice so it'll be great to get back in the saddle, although I don't expect to score many points.

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
So, I ended up playing 3 5-round tournaments. Here are the results: Hidden Text Below - [Show it] - [Hide it Again] 2W 8D 5L. I was not particularly happy, but that's life. Gotta train and come back stronger.
Top of my agenda is improving my tactical and calculation skill, I have a book I'm using in the Forward Chess app as well as practicing on chesstempo.com. I also want to improve my ending skills, so I'm diving into Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual and of course I'm keeping up my Morra study too. That's a lot of chess. Hopefully can keep it up! Oh, of course I'm making videos of my games, hopefully1 per week. All of these will be made without engines to force me to analyse for myself. Hopefully forum members will have some thoughts and can enjoy my games and the analysis too.

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
I'm somewhat busy with the start of a new academic year, but I hope to analyse my R2 game and make a video this coming week.

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
Haha, it looks like R2 never materialised! Perhaps i will get back to it some time. I uploaded a video yesterday, but it hasn't appeared. I've tried again via the Dashboard and it says uploaded but we'll see...

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
Well, it's been a super-busy semester at school but I managed to play a few games here and there on the weekends. Only short stuff- 25+10 games or even shorter but it does help just to stop the rot alittle! I should get a bit more time for chess in the coming months- we're on revision schedule now, so all teaching is done and students are mostly tackling physics problems and I'm helping them shore up their weaknesses.
I will probably enter the next round of ICC's 45+45 league. I will also see whether I can enter the British Champs again this year. For now I have homework- still need to examine games going way back!

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
I did enter the British and I can't say R1 went so well... The opening was fine- it played a Tarrasch setup against his Retired but I underestimated his position and closed things just as I should have been opening them! I played bad move after bad move and missed his simple attacking idea despite playing slowly and looking for my opponent's resources.
Will post pgn soon.

 Re: Sarciness' Rollercoaster
Good luck, Sarci! Now that you've gotten a bad game out of your system, it should be clear sailing!
