Wonderful *happy*
Had to look twice and was rubbing my eyes to make sure I am not hallucinating. Zibbit talks about the RuyExchange ? Must be X-mas =D
Will have to watch that later though but already super-excited :D

This was very interesting. I was unaware of a strategically winning pawn stucture. Very informative video and much appreciated.

I like how you made this pawn ending applicable to multiple openings based on general principles only. Interesting how the GM you illustrated in your lesson probably did no calculating or very little calculating during the game against that ameteur. I'd rank this as the best chess lesson video I've ever seen. There are other good ones on this site archived, but this one was explained clearly and concisely using real tournament examples along with hypothetical situations. I knew about the pawn breakthrough, but not about the defensive triangle that stops it and I wasn't aware that white gains opposition by letting black exhaust all his pawn moves. Also, I like how you suggested to defend the pawn ending by having black hold on to a rook. And how white still wins with a knight over the bishop in the crippled pawn majority by black. Great lesson Ingvar!

One of the best videos here that i've seen in a while, and an essential endgame for anyone's "Endgame Repertoire".

Thank you very much for the nice words and praise!

This goes straight back to Philidore's dictum, "To win a game of chess is easy, first produce a pawn majority, use it to produce a passed pawn, queen the pawn and deliver checkmate!"

I used to have an american basketball coach...when we were not executing he took a timeout, drew some plays on the X's and O's board and said slightly agitated...

"SIMPLE SHIT!"

I hate to have to admit it but I tried to take your advice and play the K&P ending against Hiarcs (2450 elo) and although I won once, I drew the rest and even lost a couple of times. When the computer played the essential line you illustrated, I was fine but on other levels, it played different move orders and I ended up befuddled. The main problem seems to be that the black K can get to e5 in some lines leaving me to scratch my head in puzzlement as to how to counter that. I know I'm probably just dense but do you have any tips?

Wow, Zibbit- I haven't watched it yet, but I'm blown away by your response- I was expecting a comment like "keep your nose to the grindstone" or something like that. :) That's very generous of you even if it turns to be 18 minutes of you telling me that I'm a moron.

You rock!
