Re: Dennis M.: White's e4 Plan vs. the Stonewall [30:00]
Hi Dennis, thanks for the video! I liked your comment about avoiding an early Nb1-c3 against a Stonewall setup. However, I've had some move-order issues with this approach. For instance, suppose Black reaches a Stonewall as follows: 1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 f5. (I saw in your own game you played 3. Nf3 but let's say I want to play 3. Nc3.) Is this an improved version for Black or are there different drawbacks?

Laurent, that's a really good question! It seems that when Black has met 3.Nc3 with 3...f5 White often plays the transpositional 4.Nf3, but the most popular move is 4.Bf4. A common plan among strong players is to continue with e3, Bd3, Qc2 and then Nge2. As in the two games shown in the video, White will go for f3 and e4, and has scored very well in this way.

A queen and rook on the board and white resigns? Seems a bit premature to me.

Very good video Dennis! Some thing to point out though. There were a lot of positions where you considered the position to be equal but in fact it was better for white. Even when black playes c5 his postion is worse due to his queenside development and of course a capture on d4 with the c5 pawn will result in a open e file for white with enduring pressure on the e6. If those positions were equal we would of course see them on high levels [2500-]
