Damn! I chose Ka7. I knew it had to be this or a8. I thought that as the White king got to a4 he could go to a3 instead of b3, but Black would promote with check in a straight pawn race. Very nice puzzle.

Hi Lutz, you are correct- 2...Kg6 is a draw. It had been a while since I did this so I looked at my notes and was surprised to see that I had already found this drawing line for Black. I'm not sure why it wasn't on the tape- either I found it after I had already recorded it or I somehow neglected to include this cook during the taping.

I do take a small issue with you saying "your wrong move for black". This is not my study- I only present them. :) This one is by Balanovsky from 1985 and was included in the book "Endgame Magic", a book that had puzzles that were supposedly computer tested. Perhaps computers were weaker back then because I recall that Rybka found this line in less than a second. In any event, the puzzle is instructive (and difficult, IMO) despite the cook and I'm sure I would have presented it anyway for the ideas contained within it.

This post has a very rude tone in it imho. Also, I don't see a point in continuing to pick on that single move in such a manner.
