2.1. Quick overview:Starts: Monday, 2nd January 2012
Time Control: 15 minutes + 15 seconds per move
System: Swiss followed by a playoff semi-finals and finals
Number of Rounds:
.....Swiss : changed to RR due to number of participants
.....Playoff: Semi Finals and Finals
Duration of Rounds: 1 game / week (first round: 2 weeks due to holidays)
We will stick to the system that after the pairings are up the players have to contact their opponents and schedule the game via PM.
2.2. What do you need to participate ?1.) A FICS account. You can create an account for free
http://www.freechess.org/2.) You probably also want a graphical interface to comfortably use the FICS servers.
The most popular afaik is "Babaschess". You can also download it for free
http://www.freechess.org/cgi-bin/Downlo ... erface.cgi3.) Obvioulsy, you should bring some time to play

A game will probably last about 45 minutes BUT you will have to invest a little bit more time because you have to schedule the games on your own - that's actually the toughest part !
2.3. How are the games scheduled ?I will post the pairings every Monday afternoon/evening GMT. Ideally, this is also the time where you look them up and write your opponent a PM. Schedule the game as soon as possible! Please ! I am not kidding...Please, as soon as possible

Also, please be reasonable and cooperative when it comes to proposing a time to play as we have to cope with time shifts of maybe up to ~10 hours. Usually, the games are scheduled on the weekends.
When you agreed on a date with your opponent please post the time in the Games Schedule Thread *will be linked later* , so people who want to spectate or make 'observer commentaries' know when the games are played. Additionally, you can post in the thread that you contacted your opponent or simply coal-copy me the PM to make the process more public.
Please only use GMT or PST ! Actually, forget the "please"..only use GMT or PST !!

. At least one of these time zones has to be given. This makes everything transparent as we all are talking about the same stuff AND more importantly these are the times the FICS server uses, which will be our 'official' time, too. If someone doesnt show up in time (I guess waiting for 10 minutes sounds reasonable) the player who is present may choose if he wants to try to reschedule or claim a full point. Please note that the time, which will be used as a reference here, is the FICS server time - it displays GMT and PST and also keeps track of online times . You can see the time by using the "date" command in the FICS console. The player who didn't show up has to PM me or post why he didn't make it. If I hear nothing he will be kicked out of the tourney.
If the scheduling of a game fails because there is no sign of life / response by one of the players, the player who didn't respond will be kicked out of the tourney. Of course it can happen that scheduling becomes problematic due to short-term stuff but please inform me and your opponent about that, so we know what is going on.
So, basically two steps:
a) PM your opponent on Monday (coal-copy the PM to me)
b) Post in the game schedule thread when the game will take place.
2.4. How do you sign up ?Just post here that you want to participate.
