I used to play this line for white. If I remember correctly 4.exd5 is the recommended line.

Yes, theory indeed suggests 4.exd5 which is followed by 4...Nf6 5.Nc3 c6 6.dxc6 Nxc6 7.Nf3 Bc5 8.Qe2+ Kf8 9. d3 Qb6 and Black is in my opinion ok, even without possibility to castle, because it has open lines and a lot of chance for counterattack. Now if White takes with Bxf4(?), then Qxb2 and king is forced to move to d2.

That may be the case, but after Bxd5 black is even more alright. ;) That said, if you aren't happy with black being alright you shouldn't play the King's Gambit :D
