 Re: chesscube game
First time I have done this!
After being inspired by watching some of you other guys who play on chesscube, I thought I might give it a whirl. Black was 2200+ but it seems hard to believe given the game.

 Re: chesscube game
Yeah, the ratings are pretty inflated on Chesscube. Nice demolition job- could have been posted in the "mate in 20 moves or less" thread.

 Re: chesscube game
Haha, very nice! And here I was expecting a big epic fight! I guess he should have played Bc5 instead of Qxd1? Please post up some of your other games some time

 Re: chesscube game
I doubt it much matters what he does as he is already in trouble. Sorry, I know the game is naff. I was just about to log off to run a bath when I noticed the pgn box on chesscube - wondering if it was idiot proof, I thought I might give it a go. And here we are!

 Re: chesscube game
Wow that ended fast nicely done.
It was almost like you just made normal moves and he just killed himself. I need to review this a few times to even get a glimpse of understanding

 Re: chesscube game
He was a zombie in the opening, I think. White castled asap and in such situations black would do well to do the same thing. Moves like c4, Be6 and Qxd1 are just asking for trouble. I don't play d4 or the Tarrasch so I can't be very accurate with the theory (is this even a Tarrasch or a semi-Tarrasch?) but from what I can tell the aim of the Tarrasch is to open up the game as quickly as possible by getting in an early pawn break. Opening up the game but not castling seems like a suicidal mismatch of ideas.

 Re: chesscube game
Actually I didn't know the theory myself. 5..Nf6 should be punished by 6.Bg5 when Kaufman in his new book says black is already in trouble. 6.g3 Nc6 transposes back into the mainline. But what was 7...a6 about? No clear plan, pointless pawn moves. Why is it so hard just to develop the pieces, get castled and connect the rooks?
But moves like 7...a6 are played in Tarrasch positions, but they are different type positions. Another case of playing a move by how it looks when studying the opening, without understanding the ' why ', which gives the ' when ' and lastly the ' how ' it works.
