Without knowing any of the details, this was a disturbing post to read. Of course, there are always two sides to every story, and the link above only gives one side, but even if it were mostly correct, I cringe when I hear things along the lines of "not getting paid what was deserved" or "taking advantage of workers"......as determined by whom? or what objective criteria?

Those that have never started, built, and operated a business often have no appreciation for everything this requires and all the decisions that have to be made..... The thing is, the society we live in is still largely a capitalistic democracy. We are ALL replaceable to some extent, and the income we earn is predominantly determined by the value of what we provide (not the number of hours) - whether manual labor, intellectual capacity, service, etc. If we disagree with our employer, we have the freedom to make our case for why we (and/or others) should be paid more, and if we don't like the response we get, we are also free to go try and build a "better" business that operates the way we want it to operate.

This isn't meant to be a political post....I spend most of my "chess playing time" on chess.com and so have a vested interest in the quality of the product this site provides. As a user of the site for over 4 years, I have been satisfied with the product and not noticed any sort of decline. Has anyone else? Am I missing anything? I have no idea about the ownership, size of the company, amount of profits it makes, employees, etc. I am disappointed when I hear that everyone involved is not one big happy family, but of course that can never really be the case because people have different ideas, priorities, etc.

I am not disagreeing with the comments in the link above, rather, I would simply encourage this person to go out and start a company that is run "the right way" as he/she would define it. That is the great thing about our freedoms, our economy which is largely based upon innovation, and competition (which forces everyone to try and do better to create a better or cheaper product for their end users). I for one, would look forward to having the choice between playing chess on chess.com and whatever the name of the new chess enterprise would be.

I apologize in advance to the mods if this post is too "political" - I'm not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers.

We have no problems with anything in your post- you stated your thesis in a balanced manner and in a thoughtful way. Thanks for contributing to the discussion. :)
